Nice 2D Action-Platformer
Easiest comparison is probably one of the Mega Man X games where you play as Zero. Game has an intro stage and then lets you tackle the next 8 in any order you want. You don't gain abilities by beating the bosses though. New moves, upgrades, etc. are mostly bought via the shops in the hub area. Upgrades require both cash and hostage rescues, and the latter are hidden throughout the stages. You can also find upgrades in the stages if you look hard enough. Kai is absurdly customizable so once you amass some cash, you should be able to find a set of skills and abilities that suit your playstyle. Overall, the game is just a blast to play and highly recommended if you like this kind of game. If I had to nitpick a flaw, a few stages might go on slightly too long, but even that is at worst minor in the grand scheme so I'm going with 5 stars.
