A very enjoyable game.
I've waited a long time for such a game. Challenging levels, dynamic action, arthistic design, good music. No unnecessary elements in the game. Tutorial is short and not boring. Fights and parkour (actually two very main things we do in the game) are difficult and sometimes it takes many tries to pass them but I gained a lot of satisfaction getting (and feeling) more skill after each one. Although sometimes fights can be frustrating. Fortunetely, after fail game doesn't load, character just respawns immediately at the last checkpoint, so it's possible to take another attempt at once. I recommend. (I run it on i7-950 with GTX960 and interestingly it works smoothly and quickly at high settings.)

Decent Game; Simple and straightforward
I bought Ghostrunner on a whim because I saw high praise for it as it was about to release from journalists and reviewers. The game looked and ran fluid when I played the demo and I had decent fun with it. Having played through the game now, I can safely say the game is... alright. I think reviewers definitely praised it to high heaven but at the same time I get why they might like this game. I only briefly glanced through them so I'm admittedly at fault. While Ghostrunner is nothing amazing, it's a decently enjoyable game. For context, I've thought about it and realized I usually don't like a game being the middle of the road. Games in this area tend to be difficult to enjoy becuase it doesn't do anything particuarly well or bad. It just ends up boring. However, there is an area near middle of the road I'm finding myself increasingly missing as I've played the newest "big hig releases." Games that don't do anything particuarly unique, but stay simple, short, and concise. Ghostrunner lands in this category. The most unique thing I can think of in regards to it is the upgrade system. Essentially, it's a tetris grid that is limted and your upgardes are tetris blocks. Whatever you fit into the tetris grid is what you equip. It's interesting and I like it. Otherwise, the game runs relatively fine. The gameplay is fairly smooth. Aside from some rough segments of platforming here and there, it's fairly smooth and enjoyable too. The story was not very good but the performance from the Architect is pretty good in my opinion. The levels while fairly detailed are unfortunately all pretty similar. Overall, Ghostrunner is decent. It sticks with a simple concept and expands on it just enough to keep it fresh. It's fairly short as well (which I'm finding increasingly attractive as I am burnt out from AAA games that don't know their limits). There is replayability if you want to find the collectibles or replay challenges. What you see is what you get and I'm alright with that.

Mirror's Edge: Katana Edition
The game's plot is one giant cliche; if you DO want a bit more, you can find a bunch of audio logs and mementos of the City and life before the Burst as collectibles- there's even an optional upgrade that'll highlight them on your radar map. But the story really isn't the point here. The point is, unequivocally, action. The game is about getting from point A to point B, either platforming your way through various urban and industrial complexes, or making it through a tight area full of enemies who must all be killed to unlock the door forward. One hit kills you, and them, so this is as much a precision platformer as it is a parkour game. Each challenge, be it platforming or a combat sequence, is essentially a puzzle-find the optimal way of using your limited skillset to get the task done. Reloads are instantaneous, and the presentation pushes you ever forward. The game nails the cyberpunk aesthetic (though a few levels are drabber than others, and the absolute highlight of the game are the residential districts), and the soundtrack is phenomenal in how it resonates with the game's pacing to keep you going. The way enemies die, the way you move through the world, the way your extra powers work- it all coalesces into an amazing power fantasy, that leaves you thinking "what I did was cool". To put it simply, once you've managed to kill 5-6 enemies in a single choreographed go, you're feeling too good about yourself to get upset that a 7th got a lucky shot in. There's also boss fights. They're all about pattern recognition, and can be very frustrating (a few took me north of 300 attempts each). But the game generally does very generous checkpointing and it almost never feels unfair. While simply finishing the game once you know what you're doing can be fairly trivial, it took me about 30 hours to finish and then re-run a few levels with unlocked upgrades for some achievements. Overall, a great package for action fans; you'll certainly get your money's worth!
