Genesis Alpha One is a great indie roguelike that offers a combination of first-person shooter, ship-building and management elements. Building up a ship, of which you can explore and work on every single section, offers a huge sense of scale and personal ownership, especially as you travel the reaches of a dangerous galaxy in the aim for the survival of the human race. You'll task your crew, which you grow in cloning vats, to run different areas of your ship while making sure their needs are met. All of this while going to planets to scavenge resources and, of course, trying to survive against horrible alien creatures that want to do nothing more than breed with your face. Every part of the game is a fine art of balance, though like other roguelikes luck will be a key factor in your survival, which is the biggest downside to the game.

Ok, get it on sale.
This is an interesting consept, but it falls short on delivery. Getting upgrades is slow, any upgrades. And even when you find planets with "tech" upgrade module icon, the game gives you the middle finger and gives you in stead a "story tape" from some random astronout you have to listen to talk instead of tech... The biggest problem is that there are no minimap of your ship. It can be really confusing as every hallway is the same. The hallway is dark, no lights. 4 hours in the game and I have found 1 building upgrade and 1 weapon. Time to move on to an other game that is waisting my time.

solid but lacking a little something
It has all the right stuff, but doesn't really stick the landing. Essentially it is a space management sim with combat as a feature. But the world feels a little stale and the beginning enemies aren't that dangerous. Once you get exploring and refining materials it gets better, but the first hour or so will be pretty mediocre, which is not a terrible thing. It feels like a 2009 flash game with modern graphics.

Don't be fooled by the front page.
No wonder they gave it for free… First with the pros: -Ship management manipulation plus strategies and whatnot. Great. -Cool cloning idea/Manipulation. Awesome. -Alien ship invasion, weapons and that’s it. -Graphics and so on are great. Including optimization. Cons: -Boring gameplay, Minecraft-like in space but boring, no, not even that just awfully boring. -Gameplay is basic; nothing outstanding, nothing incredibly tricky what annoys me the f*ck up is the lame grind. Over and over and over again, that is not fun. Period. -Everything else: the core idea is great, ships, aliens, planet exploration and attacks… but the grind, lazy execution and boring gameplay kills it off instantly. And don’t get me started on the resources and whatnot… Some people compared it to No Man’s, I can’t say because I never played it, but if No Man’s is like this boring claustrofuck, then I know what game I am never going to buy on GoG. So Thanks for the heads up. I don’t recommend it but since they gave it for free, I guess playing it every now and then won’t kill you. No wonder they gave it (snorts). So stay away if you value your sanity.
