Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords: Galactic Civilizations II is the sequel to 2003's hit turn-based strategy game of the same name. Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar: The expansion pack for Stardock's award-winning hit strategy game, Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords. This expansion pack not only adds the usual content that expansion packs tend to do such as new opponents, new units and a new campaign. It also greatly expands the game play of Galactic Civilizations II. New features include asteroid belts on the map that can be mined for resources, unique planets that require special technologies to colonize, spies to conduct sabotage and destabilization (or used to protect your worlds from the same), new types of diplomatic treaties, an enhanced artificial intelligence engine, and much more!

Was a fun time sink back in the day
I got into GalCiv2 back in 2007 and consumed the two add ons when they came out. It was pretty enjoyable, to a point. The tech trees and building starships were fun, was was the early colony rush. The game grinds to a halt fun and speed wise when you’re handling lots of planets and micromanaging buiding—and you need to otherwise the governor AI makes absolutely idiotic decisions. I never liked the campaigns because when I played I had to start tech research from zero in every scenario. Up against those Dread Lords late in the campaign? Never mind I had decent defense and ship propulsion, your faction apparently needs to reinvent the wheel every single time. That said I have been having the itch to play again and might get a GoG copy since I dont even know where the original install discs have gone. (On sale; it’s a bit steep to see if I’m looking at the game through nostalgia goggles at the regular price.)

Game's Good But Buggy
There have been a few freezeups from the game and not sure what's causing them. Frequently it's attempting to do something during the turn change, but even not doing that it still has the freezing problem. The original did this as well, but not sure if this might be a touch worse.
