... for frostpunk 2. It's just unbelievable how shameless this developers are.
They packed the whole main menu of frostpunk with advertisements for frostpunk 2.
1. You're instructed to wishlist it when the game is launched for the first time.
2. You're presented with a big entry in the main menu that frostpunk2 is available.
3. You can't get rid of this abomination.
I got hooked up on the plot and the setting, and tried to avoid spoilers before starting the game, so what I expected about it and what I got was completely different.
The game does not offer a large map, infinite replayability, competitions; but this is the case that proves bigger does not mean better. I'm glad that the game designer(s) decided to focus on the core mechanics and refine them well, instead of huge empty nothing filled with repetitive activities.
One can think about this game as StarCraft with pause. If you have to wait for resources to appear - you're doing it wrong. If you accumulate huge piles of them (unless you know why) - you're doing it wrong. And if you, do it wrong - does not mean you do not have fun following the arc of the story.
I spent 90h so far in the game going through the scenarios and it is beautiful how Bit Studios managed to present the same content at different angles, making it entertain. That is not "your princess is in a different castle" scenario, more like now you drive this racetrack in a different direction, so all corners require different approach.
There is one little bump. I wish the game code was a bit better optimized. Sometimes it has random freezes on speed 2 or speed 3 (once crashed for me). Not a game breaker, but slightly annoying.
I had to restart the first level a few times before I figured out the proper resource management, which is narrowly forgiving and makes the game seem more difficult than it really is. Once you find the sweet spot the game progresses like others in the genre - collect, build, research, explore, address pop-up diplomacy issues.
Things that make it good:
Atmosphere (visual and auditory) - the best asset in my opinion
Moderately interesting story line (also not so good)
Some interesting things to build
Nice diplomacy tree
Some "timed" challenges that pop up
Things that are not so good:
Not believable story line that dampens sense of urgency and connection
Is like watching paint dry at times
As your outpost grows the buildings start to look the same and crowd together
As per above, makes it hard to locate a specific building in the midst of an urgent situation
Map control is hard since your outpost starts out "in a pit"
Overall it is a pretty decent game that is certainly worth paying for.
I was never addicted this much!
Love playing this game i don't know why but I've spent nearly 50h! Totally worth it, kinda sad that DLC are not free, but they are as good as a base game,
I always replay various story modes during late winter trying to get better and better each time. The effort and flawless results in the end brings so much more sense to my life during dark times. This game is brilliant fusion of design, spirit, journey, mechanics, story, emotions, resource management, planning and decision making.
Playing hundreds of games for over 30 years and this one is among TOP 10 of all times for me!
