MAC version review

The game itself deserves 5 stars for sure. The MAC port, however, has some flaws: 1. The game runs in bad screen aspect ration. I don't know how it works on a laptop, but I had to correct aspect ratio on my external display every time I launched the game. I found no setting to correct it the software way. 2. Some models, especially ones for big ships, get messed up. Some textures blink for no apparent reason. Happened ti me in about 7-10 missions in the game. 3. At some point the game stopped starting up. I had to re-download and re-install it. Luckily my player profile was unharmed. Apart from that, the game is perfectly playable and You can enjoy it as much as You did in the 90s. ;)

Oh the memories

This was my first "space game" and I loved it. I still have the CD floating around somewhere. It blew me away when I was younger taking my tiny fighter against massive capital ships. I never ended up beating it I remember getting stuck on a mission where I had to sneak into an enemy base and well I am not good at sneaking. I do remember that the game can get difficult at times but it is a must play for any space flying fan.

Back to the golden age of PC gaming :)

GET IT GET IT GET IT..............................................GET IT and install FSOPEN to update the graphics. You get so much for so little cash. Back when games were complete and awesome :)

Broken

This was one of my favorite games. However there is a bug where you have to protect a ship going through an astorid belt, but it never jumnp out and you can't win and you can't proceed to the next mission. I remember there exist a mod that uses the freespace 2 engine where you import the orginal mission to it so you can play them with the freespace 2 physics, that does work. search for Knossos-0.14.3

Epic!

This won several Game of the Year Awards for a reason. Even by today's standards, this game leaves little to be desired. Other than some of the giant ships having that "wallpapered" detail look (but hey, this was made in like 1998 or something), this game has an easy-to-follow and outstanding storyline, fantastic gameplay, and lots of thing to customize, including HUD and the layout for your weapons and ships. There are tons of awesome controls that will take you a while to master, but it is still easily playable with just some basic targeting and movement controls they teach you in the training. For a measly six bucks, this game is the best game I've ever bought (well, Freespace 2 is equally awesome) And if that isn't enough for you, you can download the Freespace Open Installer for free, which uber enhances all the details and effects in the game. There are alos tons of free mods and extra missions online. Like I said, this is, in my book, the best game of all time, and will be for a long time to come. (plus, you don't have to have a very good computer to play this; pretty much anything under ten years old should be fine!)
