Buy both the Freespace Battlepack and Freespace 2 from GoG to get all the original content, then join the Freespace Open community and get the MUCH improved FS2Open engine for your choice of platform (old or new Windows, linux, Intel or PowerPC MacOS) and the hi-res texture packs. Follow the recipe to combine all the incredients and you can then play the entirety of Volition's original Freespace universe from start to finish, and then keep going with all-new mission packs! Freespace set the standard that is still yet to be matched fifteen years later, and it is that standard that drives the Freespace Open community to continually update and improve the Freespace experience without losing a single aspect of the original.
