Got it from Kickstarter so I have it on steam. Its awesome, hard and fun roguelike, do I need to say more? ;3 Well ,okay, I guess I could explain WHY it is fun and hard and awesome, but I'd like to you to see it yourself.
The game is fun for a couple of days, but soon grows old due to endless repetition and randomness that makes the game unwinnable unless you are lucky enough to get good stuff early.
I review it as long term ADOM player.
pros:
- graphics
- music
- first 15 minutes of play until you start realizing what the cons are
cons (in this order):
1) basicaly requires no skill, you're on mercy of just random number generator
2) repetive - how many times you can die few jumps from start (see 1)
3) boring - i really tried to see what is further (see 1&2)
If I had more time and patience to learn optimal actions required for success, and build the requisite in-game knowledge to handle unforeseen scenarios, then perhaps I would enjoy this game.
Unfortunately, at this stage in my life, I have neither. Maybe I could have started with "Let's Play" videos, but I'm not keen on engaging in a game that requires extensive meta-knowledge without the benefit of save-scumming.
I would rather reserve my time for games that are not punishingly difficult and require constant failure for the fleeting chance of success. If you appreciate being reminded constantly of how little you know, or enjoy failing because you haven't failed enough to learn how to respond properly, then FTL might be your jam.
That's not how I like my games, though I can grant others may appreciate that.
