Far Cry® 2, developed by Ubisoft Montreal, takes many of the great ideas from the previous game and improves upon them, making a pulse-pounding, high-speed shooter that roars through the beautiful, if sere, environments of Central Africa. With stunning visuals and deep gameplay, this game takes everything you liked about Far Cry® and ramps it up to 11.
You are a gun for hire, trapped in a war-torn African state, stricken with malaria and forced to make deals with corrupt warlords on both sides of the conflict in order to do what it takes to take down the Jackal, a dirty arms merchant who has made your new homeland a war-torn hell.
You must identify and exploit your enemies’ weaknesses, neutralizing their superior numbers and firepower with surprise, subversion, cunning, and of course, brute force.
This is the Fortune's Edition of Far Cry® 2, which is patched up (like every GOG game) to the most recent version which includes the Fortunes Pack DLC that added three new weapons and two new vehicles to the game, as well as several new multiplayer maps.
One of the most interactive and destructible environments ever made for an open world game, with special attention paid to a realistic fire engine that's a pyromaniac's dream come true.
Fight for different rival factions as you confront the ugly truths about conflict in a poor, war-torn country.
Great story complemented by fantastic open world first-person gameplay!
Best Far Cry game in the series so far. just not for everyone. Takes time to feel it and get the hand of it. Now I feel sad that Ubisoft probably will never make another game like that.
The only thing that can annoy you over time are extremely fast re-spawns of guard posts. But even that adds to the feels.
A lot of people will whine about this game. That certain things i.e Weapon Jam is unfair , enemy respawn rates are harsh , that the vehicles are easily breakable and generally that the higher the difficult the more impossible it seems.
I remember booting this game out the day I got it 5 years ago. What greeted me was one of the Single Best FPS for people that don't want to be rail road tracked like COD or any on the rails shooter. The vast amount of ways you can take out enemies is limited only by yourself. I have taken out a whole base of guards before with 1 flare and a molotov on some of the harder difficulties. The difficulty in raising funds and ensuring that both you and your buddys stay alive and as healthy as possible added in a factor that you'll never see FarCry produce again. Fighting off both Malaria and gun jams was what made this game all the more enjoyable as you constantly had to ensure you were ready for the next batch of Explosions , gun fire and close quarters executions.
While the plot does seem to be uninteresting at points it is actually quite fun to compare what the Jackal states and tries to teach your charecter through the tapes and with his interactions with the modern world. Is the Jackal a good person? No but even he has his limits and wants to see an end to both of the facist and corrupt regimes plauging the nation.
Pair all this alongside assasination missions , taking out arms dealers , aiding your friends and smuggling documents for the Underground and you have yourself a game that is highly replayable and highly enjoyable.
To this day I am yet to do a playthrough in which I find all the diamond cases in a single run as most of the time you can generate the cash you need by doing the odd random side quest.
TLDR - Don't let other people rag down this game because it doesnt play like (Insert game here). If you are a fan of open world challenging shooters then i'd say give this one a go. You never know you might have fun.
This game rips me a new ass every time I play it but I keep coming back to it and wasting my time because of what it could be, not what it is. It is definitely failed potential. It's slow paced, enemies are overly aggressive and seem to appear out of thin air at times. It could definitely use a more robust fast travel system- I will say that the game definitely lives up to it's reputation of being "Far Drive."
It's mind-numbing, frustrating and exhausting to play. Just the same actions over and over again- like washing dishes or sweeping the floor. The gunplay itself feels very clunky.
On the upside, it definitely looks pretty for a game that's over ten years old.
There are several annoying things about this game that other reviews have covered. Back in the day, these things were annoying as well, but the freedom was so great, I could overlook a lot. If you come to this from a newer game, you'll probably be disappointed.
I used to love the multiplayer. Too bad that's long dead.
