This exciting game lets you face one to four adversaries chosen from among 20 computer-controlled opponents. Hog all the keyboard!

From the limited time I've played it, this is a decent port. I was a little disappointed to find no real enhancements - but fun nonetheless. If $10 is worth it to you to get this up and running without a lot of hassle, grab it. Otherwise, maybe wait for a sale. I had hoped for a little love to allow the game to be played across the net with friends, but alas, I guess I'll just have to invite some people over and fight over the keyboard like in the old days. Fair warning, if you have an average size display, check the forum linked above. I posted a fix I had to make manually in order to actually make the game playable. Hopefully and update is added in the future to allow those of us with a meager 1920 x 1080 pixel size play it without tinkering with config files. It's set to 1920 x 1440 by default.

Fond memories

A fantasy themed (Dungeons and Dragons licencse) strategy game in which your heroes fight real time battles when the armies meet. A typical high quality SSI standard of visuals, top notch pixel art, but for some reason, the GOG release has all the domunetation (manual, reference card) in German. Why, I wonder?

I don't know why...

...there's a lot to this game, but not to much. All the visuals and sound are fun, but I guess the old learning curve is the problem that had me back in the day enjoying the frustration of learning a new and bewildering game while the difficulty made it seem longer. Oversimplified strategy, but not stupid.You have to defend yourself, try to head off competing armies, and cast a few spells here and there to get an advantage!

This was in regular rotation as a kid.

It's not perfect by any stretch, but it's one of my first memories of a proper grand-scale Civilization-like game. It has a reasonable amount of depth, and the setup > live overview of real-time battles was always fun. If you get yourself comfortable with the sometimes limiting UI, the charm of the game really opens up. It'll take a few runs to get the hang of it.

Classic yet flawed

I want to give five stars because I have such fond memories of the game. I'm not because the game has a couple of limitations. It still is so darn close to five out of five. If I were to describe this game it would be a land grab with army building and basic city building aspects with a minor RPG aspect (aka the quests for your heroes.. which i think are a major opportunity missed-thus flawed) It's a game based on the original D&D rules set in Mystara, which I adore. There are provinces to attack and control, castles and other buildings to create in those provinces, which is great. But because they are strictly true to the old skool Mystara, clerics and mages are limited to certain tiles for building their respective creation buildings which can be an issue. Battles are fought top down (reminiscent of Gauntlet TBH) and im still (re)learning to use the keyboard but it doesnt affect the gameplay much if you know how to build up your army. I still love it even after thirty odd years so it cant be bad.
