An amazing game, friends. You owe it to yourself to play it. But be aware, if you want to run this in DosBox (I wanted to use an emulator to play on my Android phone) this version does not seem to include a compatible version. Judging by instructions found out on the internet people were able to get the old GOG release working in DosBox, so it appears to have been removed for this release - a darn shame. Since this is the only reason I bought it (I still have the original CDs) it turned out to be a waste of money. The Original Fallout began one of gaming's best series. The game starts you out in your vault where you are called to the overseers office and sent out into the wastelands on a mission to save your vault from certain doom. You begin with a pistol a few bullets and a lot of hope. You must choose given a limited amount of points where to place your strengths ....will it be strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility, or Luck (also known as your S.P.E.C.I.A.L. sklls). Your choices there will determine what type of character you play. Do you go for the juggernaut with low intelligence or the Agile and Perceptive Rogue? Maybe you go for a combination all your own, its completely up to you. The music is at times eerie and unsettling but it takes you to that wasteland and makes you feel as though you are really there. I am not a big puzzle solver so I was happy that the few puzzles that are in the game are not too difficult. Your Pipboy allows you to customize the game, view your inventory, take stimpacks(healing packs) and other vital actions to the game. You are able to choose real time or turn based combat and so your game can be tailored to your play style. The map is huge and exploring is vital to your survival, but be careful ..there are places you most definitely do not want to find yourself until you are ready. You are able to utilize companions in this game as well to assist you in your journey. They are helpful if you are carrying too much weight as well. For those that have played on in the series, its wonderful to see the NCR's beginnings and to actually become the legendary vault dweller. I would highly recommend this classic for anyone just starting out. I would also recommend it for those that have a bit of experience under their belts with this type of game because there is no other game like it.

This was the very first of the Fallout games, and it is still in my all-time-favorite games list today. With added community enhancements, hi-res patches and unofficial updates, this game is still fun, unique to play, and more complex than it was on its release date; and the best part is, even a low-powered netbook can run this just fine. The post-apocalyptic world is diverse, the humor is brilliant to say the least, and this game is worth being played just for the random encounters alone. The character creation is fun, you get a wide array of cool weapons (such a modified shotgun based pistol!), and even after a number of playthroughs, there are still new items to discover. If you love RPGs, if you love a post-apocalyptic sci-fi setting, and if you have an affinity for the Fallout universe (even if you started with Fallout 3), then you should certainly give this a try. It might look a little dated, but the graphics, as they are, in fact help the atmosphere. I probably completed this game over a dozen times by now. Given the fact that Fallout is from 1997, a time in which video games were not quite that established yet as a socially accepted entertainment form, the voice acting provided by actors like Ron Perlman, Michael Dorn and Dwight Schultz is also superb! To all of the younglings the flame the graphics of this gem and won't touch it because of it, you're missing out. Big time.

Fallout is the kind of games you will like to go back again and again because it has so much atmosphere, the story is so deep. I just bought it again even if I still own the CD versions of Fallout I & II, and noticed I could not play it on my Mac. So sad... Hey wonder boys from GOG, pls make the Mac owners to play that great game ! Many thanks in advance.
