Note for GOG: This is part of the game. This affected my ability to play. This is a fact.
I don't like hard games and I hate perma-death so I wasn't sure if I would like this but everything else about it sounded great. I have died a lot already but each death allows you to spend your money on upgrades that are permanent and help with subsequent runs, so everything makes you stronger, even the things that kill you. Every death is still very frustrating but I just have to keep reminding myself that dying is an important opportunity.
I was also a bit surprised to see Steam VR start up when I ran the game, pressing "O" while in game switches to VR mode if you have the equipment. It seems to run well but I have a GTX980ti and I didn't test it for long for fear of vomiting mid dog fight. The game itself is not too bad for VR sickness but I get VR sick very easily.
I've played the game for a few hours total so far, and my initial impression hasn't changed. The game just does not play at the same speed as other flight sims I've done. It's far, far more fast twitch and difficult to target while getting swarmed. Why is that, because the enemies you face move incredibly fast and turns on dimes. While I can appreciate that ability, it's annoying as all hell. I really, really wanted to play this game with my controller. This game is impossible to succeed at with a controller because the enemies move and turn so radically. If you're looking for an X-wing, Tie Fighter type experience, this isn't it.
It's pretty, there's some good concepts in there. Just that the actual gameplay when dealing with the multitudes of fighters on you is terrible. It's never 1v1, it's always at least 3v1. Others may like it, but I do not and regret getting sucked in with the glowing reviews.

I was hoping for much more out of this game, but I found it to be pretty lacking. You fly through level after level while being attacked by many fighters. You never dock at a station, or really anything else. You just fly to the exit point and wait until you can jump out to the next stage. There is really no point to it all. Even if you destroy a wing of enemies, more just show up until you jump out. The entire experience was very shallow. I felt like it was more of an old arcade shooter than anything else.
The graphics and sound were great. Everything looked beautiful. Again, it just isn't my type of game. I can usually get on board with any space game, even those of a genre I'm not particularly interested in, but this game was just way too shallow.
