Minimalistic but smart and atmospheric

My Video Review is available here: https://youtu.be/Pj_M5VXlnqc Is Evan’s Remains the game that is worth investing your money and time in? One can find many positives there - mysterious complex story, relaxing gameplay, puzzle design, gradual learning curve, responsive controls, beautiful graphics and nice music. There are also few negatives that I have found while playing - the puzzles become quite repetitive sooner or later due to simplicity of their design, the adventure lovers might not like frequent puzzle platforming sequences and vice versa, hard to follow for children and absence of dubbing. Pros: - story - relaxing - puzzle design - gradual learning curve - controls - graphics - music Cons: - creeping stereotype - the mix of genres is not for everyone - hard to follow for children - no dubbing If you are looking for a pure adventure or pure puzzle platformer better look somewhere else. But if you would like to try a puzzle platformer with a strong story you are on the right address here. I personally have enjoyed playing Evan's Remains and I am therefore giving it Thumb Up and VideoGaming Father’s Index 7+ out of 10 - recommended.

Nice, Short Experience

This Puzzle-Platformer isn't bad, but everything struck me as just alright. The mechanics were solid, and the puzzles were just the right amount of challenging without being too easy or too hard. The visuals were lovely when it came to the backgrounds, but the character portraits looked just a little off to me; don't know what it was about them. The music was very pleasant, but probably nothing I'd listen to out of context. I suppose the story is the star of the show here, but it didn't quite resonate with me. The story bits seemed to go on too long for something like this, and while they were canonically tied to the puzzles you were solving, it still didn't gel well for me. The actual story was fairly intricate, but didn't resonate with me, either. It's short, so it didn't wear out its welcome, but the post-credits bit was really weird and tacked on; it seemed like it was a bunch of backer rewards, but crammed in, rather than interwoven with the rest of the game.

Short and beautiful

Evan's Remains is a great visual novel with short platforming puzzles between dialogs, featuring beautiful art and an interesting story. It even got me emotional at a certain point. It's a game I would recommend playing if you're up for a short and interesting story (with heavy plot twists) combined with laid-back gameplay.

This game is simple yet surprising.

Now, ome puzzles may be pacebreakers, but this was a smooth 2-hour tale for me.

Not Enough Meat for the Price

This game is made for a more casual audience, but that by no means makes it any less of a good game. It's short and can easily be played through in a single night. The Good: > Great quality art and pixel sprite animation > Dialogue is realistic and isn't a chore to read > Story is engaging > Music is on point with the setting and emotion of the game > Environment parallax makes for a gorgeous game setting > Puzzles have some difficulty and were actually fun at times > Pays homage to kickstarter backers in an excellent way The Bad: > The story suffers from its own need for a twist ending. Right up until the twist the story was actually pretty suspenseful and emotional, then as the twist is revealed it flops into a boring and contrived plot that tries, and fails, at presenting a philosophical dilemma. > The price Overall a decently fun experience, soured by its own twist ending. The puzzles aren't too difficult and are the only interaction apart from the visual story, so unless you really enjoy the story its replayability is pretty low. The price is what made me refund it. It's good quality software, but it's not worth more than $5. Considering the short length I, personally, wouldn't price it above $3. Get it on sale if you're really into it.
