Endless Space 2 is a beautiful and capable 4X game, with memorable personality that's seemingly calculated down to the pixel level. It doesn't deviate much from the genre's norms, but it delivers a generally satisfying 4X experience with only a few missteps in combat and diplomacy. Provided you're also okay with tackling a steep learning curve, it's also a satisfying entry point for the genre.

Endless Space 2 doesn't sugarcoat the 4x experience, and it can be daunting when you realize that all 600 icons on the screen have a tooltip you need to read to make just this one decision. Despite all that complexity, none of it seems unnecessary, which means every one of those tooltips has essential information.

Game is promising, but...
I arraived at my first interstellar battle with the battle screen displaying "Loading..." at the bottom, and that's where it sat. I ended up terminating the program after sitting and waiting for several minutes. So disappointing! The rest of the game up to that point was interesting and fun to play. I guess I'll have to try again and see if my next battle freezes or not. I'm playing this on a Dell Alienware gaming laptop with 32GB RAM and NVIDIA RTX 3080 GPU, so my laptop should have ample resources for this game to work correctly.

Absolutely unplayable multiplayer
I specifically bought this game on this account to play multiplayer, but I've played it singleplayer before. I very much enjoy the singleplayer, but holy shit the multiplayer is unplayable. - Desync every turn. If combat between ships ever causes a ship to die, the host needs to reload the session or ghost ships will be left lying around. - Sometimes, the turn can't end. This requires each player to leave and the host to rehost the server. - Delay on every action, DESPITE constantly having desyncs. You'd think the desyncs would be caused by the game updating your client before it contacts the other player, but everything has a delay on top of that which would imply that it's talking to the host first??? We specifically played on fast to see if we could finish a game, but around turn 70 we were having to restart the session and game multiple times per turn. Absurd.

Fun game, lots of nuance.
Great 4x game with plenty of replay value. Mechanics are very nuanced, leave room for lots of strategies. Only issue is the game's tutorial isn't great. There's a lot which it doesn't explain so you have to watch a youtube video or three to learn the ins and outs.
