ELDERBORN is a Metal Action Fantasy Slasher with brütal FPP melee combat and souls-like/RPG character progression. In the times of legend, the barbarian tribes need a new dark messiah. The player becomes a merciless slayer who will uncover ancient secrets in the city of doom, and forge their own destiny. This ambitious indie game, five years in the making, combines old-school single-player feel, a classic heroic story, and modern level of skill-based challenge. All this and more creates an action-packed, engaging adventure that will last 8-10 hours in a single play-through. Prepare for:
Skill-based, souls-like melee combat in first person perspective, complete with 11 varied weapons to master
Character progression and skill system that allows you to play the game in your very own way
A hand-crafted, mysterious, and dangerous world to explore - catacombs, ancient, monolithic city, and more
A large selection of enemies, each with their own fighting style, tricks, strengths, and weaknesses
An epic and somewhat exotic original heavy metal soundtrack with an occasional electronic beat
An unapologetic tribute to Robert E. Howard-esque heroic fantasy and the awesome pop-culture of the 80's and 90's
pretty good game, amazing ost, incredibly unique metal setting / vibe. much too short though, i think the price is a little high considering it's length. no other complaints though. would def recommend when on sale
But it's not...
It is far below Dark Messiah as a First Person Slasher, and the lack of variety in gameplay turns a serviceable game into a boring one.
I had very low expectations for this game considering the size of the game studio and the decent price but:
- there is no GAMMA, no BRIGHTNESS setting yet..? Everything is SO DARK !
- I have spent like 4 hours in the very first level (i think?) the stupid boring cave. The game does terrible at showing you the way to go. Also the enemies seem to respawn where you just passed few minutes ago so good luck getting confused and mistaken this title for a 10 hour content when it probably much less..
- the LORE is getting boring and boring as you find the tablets..
- Fighting more than 4 enemies at once at the lowest NORMAL difficulty setting equals certain death. Which means you cannot really do Rambo stuff and power through this game too much..
- Weapons are not ballanced, if you kick a shield bearer it takes the same time for him/her/it to put the shield back on as it takes for you to put the foot down again and raise the weapon.. Also the damage is very very low.. Three hits with the mighty hammer to kill a goddamn skeleton.. ?
- the music is great for the first half an hour.. after that.. it just gets in the way.
+ I like the gender screen, the woman i played looked interesting.
+ weapon animations are pretty cool.
+ game seems okay optimized, runs fast and it has a small footprint on the disc (like almost 3 GB).
Aaand.. thats it: 7/10 game.
