The 4-5 stars are from nostalgia. Essentially this game is a game of interesting ideas that had poor execution. The long running campaign, multi layer terrain, customisable units are all interesting concepts, but all the drawbacks bring it down. Very clunky UI, terrible laggy mouse cursor, balance issues, tiny minimap and bad pathfinding will really start to wear you down. I can't stress how frustrating the mouse cursor is. It has a refresh rate of something like 5-10 fps making it feel really awkward to move your units around. Additionally the hitboxes of the units fit exactly the model making it almost impossible to select moving units. Then the lack of hotkeys such as no land command will again cause frustration when playing. I wanted to like this as I did when I was younger but it really doesn't hold up especially when compared to other RTS classics like Aoe or Starcraft. If you do pick it up, if you play ED just spam the groznies in the campaign. The lack of shields will decimate your units and fliers avoid that type of damage
