Old Problems&new features

I only played the necro-campaign until now, so my impression is based on this part of the game. The basic gameplay is based on Eador MotBW, with all pros&cons...including some of the old bugs like access violation&savegame corruption but compared to the release version of MotBW technical problems are rare. The real difference are the "story-campaigns" compared to the free sandbox campaign and some new mechanics like worship that are not explained anywhere At the start of the campaign you get your storyhero, allready level 10 (with some bad skillchoices), a demese with some prebuilt buildings..again with several bad choices and a below average revengestory. Now you conquer the land like any shard, expect for a turnlimit. After conquering the shard you get some more simple phrases and move to the next shard with your hero+army+inventory. Now you get a 2.hero, level 7, preleveld&skilled, a demese with some buildings etc. Building up a hero like this would be really a great fun...if...the campaign had a better story or with MY hero in a sandbox campaign. Until now it felt more like a expanded tutorial for the new class...not a real storycampaign. Overall...you trade the freedom of choice&a strategic sandboxcampaign for a below average story,some unexplained new features&the ability to carry your hero over from hard to shard... I don't regrett buying it but it's clearly less then i hoped.

Criminally underrated!

Eador: Imperium (and really, all of the series) is a great turn-based strategy game. Yes, there can be some tedious hard times if you are low on gold. And yes, there is some grinding involved. Also, if you get bored by very similiar battles over and over, you might don't like it. (The AI most of the tme makes a terrible job if you choose auto combat. You usually loose a unit or more you wouldn't have lost if you had done it all by yourself.) I enjoy the battles, they remind me of chess and HoMM and AoW and the kind. That set aside, it is a wonderful game with lots of stuff to build and discover. I gather, lot of the negative or mediocre ratings are because of the frequent crashes the game suffered, when in first came out. There have been a lot of patches that aimed at these issues. The game is much more stable now. I had some crashes, but after hours of gameplay, and they are not a big issue because of the autosave feature.

I was a bit nervous...

There've been a number of reviews stating the game was constantly crashing, even some recent ones, but I took a deep breath and went and bought it during the sales. I'd enjoyed Genesis, the original game, and liked the idea of the broader range of units and buildings in the updated variant. Anyhow, the game has been stable for me, with not a single crash in 8 hours of play now. - I've had two 'exception faults' after closing the game, but the gameplay has never been affected. But I love the game. I love the look, and am just about getting the hang of the revamped building screens. It plays much slower than the original, and that's another bonus for me. Great game, but I'd get it in the sales just to be safe. - I think I'm right in saying that if it's unstable on your system, GOG are one of the few reputable companies who'll give you a refund, no questions asked.

Worth The Effort To Learn

It took me a few false starts but after a few Youtube videos, I was up and running. Has that great "one more turn" quality, and is sufficiently different enough from the competition to feel fresh and new. My laptop loves the game's low overhead, and I find myself strategizing about what to do next when I'm not playing. Lastly, the exploration mode is a fantastic way to learn the game's mechanics and interface without worrying about getting your ass handed to you by an AI. Highly recommended.

One of my all-time favorite games

In 2022, this game is much more stable than their other game, masters of the broken world. More units, a ton of strategic depth. Playing on the hardest difficulty will give anybody a run for their money. This is my favorite 4x series because it focuses on combat and allowing the player to make frequent strategic decisions. Resource management is fairly simple and straightforward which is a good thing compared to other 4x games. It doesn't bog the player down with complicated and tedious overworld movement, frequent swapping of heroes' armies, etc. The province exploration system removes a lot of the tedium in overworld movement present in other 4x games. The game still crashes from time to time and it is a buggy game but more people need to play this game. The one star reviews are not fair to the developers.
