Worse in every way possible
Dungeon Keeper 1 is my favorite game of all time, so it really pains me to write this. Dungeon Keeper 2 is a worse game in every way possible. - It's unstable, so expect some crashes - The graphics are a perfect example of higher resolution doesn't mean better graphics. It looks so much worse than the first game. - The AI of the creatures is just horrific. You can have downed creatures on the ground, drop imps directly on it to pick it up and they just get paralized with indecision. That means you can watch as your high leveled creatures turn to corpses while you curse at your imps. - All the movement feels floaty and chaotic. Combine that with the bad AI and everything becomes a mess. You can watch your creatures bodyblock each other while trying to get food and then complain that they can't get to the hatchery. - The training room + arena system for training your creatures is neat in theory, but a mess in practice due to units being downed and your imps AI being a mess. Again, enjoy your level 8 creature turning into a corpse as an imp stands next to it. - Combat is just terrible. Most units are utterly useless, because they get killed by a light breeze. In DK1 you had niches for lots of creatures if you knew how to use them. In DK2 it's a crapshoot if your floaty units with terrible AI even do anything before falling over. - Gone are all the neat little details like seeing detailled stats of your creatures - And pehaps worst of all: the horned reaper is now a summoned spell that basically does nothing, because it gets confused by the terrible AI and pathfinding. I could go on and on, but you should get the picture by now. Do yourself a favor and buy Dungeon Keeper 1 instead and install the KeeperFX fan remake/expansion. It's INFINITELY better in every single way possible. PS. I blame EA for this rushed mess of a game.
