Windows 8 crashes every time I choose an option in the main menu... whether its a new campaign or Settings. please fix :c or refund?

My game is not working on Win 7 64 bit either It would be nice with a solution, since we've paid for the thing :) Thanks

I was planning on giving this a 1 star review because I couldn't play the game. The game would launch but crash when going into Options, Campaign, etc. I tried all sorts of fixes found on other sites with no luck. At least until I went into Comparability mode and selected 640x480. Yup, that was the fix, not Run in Win XP SP3 or whatever, just that one little box. No registry edits needed. This is on Windows 8.1.

I'm assuming you are here because you're already aware of this amazing gem of a game, and are trying to find this old classic to re-play the epicness. If you haven't, you missed out, and you must get it. It is beyond comparison to any modern RTS, or any RTS at all that I can think of. Moving on - working on Windows 7 64bit home premium. Zero crashes so far after about 6 hours of playing. Only giving 4 stars however because the sound is not working correctly. You cannot hear 90% of event based sounds (ie. imps digging / rocks falling / creatures screaming at each other while fighting / swords clashing etc.), and the other 10% you get stuck with a loop of a fireball exploding until you save and re-load (though sometimes it stops when you just save and before reloading). If you are looking for a full experience of DK2, you might want to either try and find a fix for this, or run an old system with WinXP (worked fine on that for me). If you are fine playing with the sound glitch (or without sound altogether), and don't mind missing out on the full ambience, this works great on Win7 (and XP). On a side note - I would happily pay for a sound fix if GoG manages to come up with one ;)

I bought this game from GoG a fair while ago before they added compatibility for Windows 7. It sucked back then and I couldn't play it at all. But after finding out they added compatibility, I redownloaded DK2 and it works like a charm. Played the campaign from start to finish without any trouble. It's a shame that I've been unable to find any multiplayer support, though. DK2 multiplayer is some of the best RTS multiplayer I've ever experienced. Would be nice to have that.
