Arkham, Massachusetts 1929. Walter Gilman, a promising math student, has just moved to the city and is starting his studies at Miskatonic University. The Dombrowski’s boarding house where he resides has a bad reputation, but Walter doesn’t mind the old rumors... Until the dreams start. A hideous scheme is underway, and if Walter is not careful, it could cost him more than his life. It could cost him his soul.


Dreams in the Witch House is a unique mix of classic point and click adventure and open world RPG. The gameplay is nonlinear and many of the elements are generated randomly, making each playthrough different.

You have two months to prepare Walter for the dreaded May-Eve. How you spend the time is completely up to you: concentrate on studies, get friends and stay in good physical and mental state. Or explore the old rumours, read the forbidden books at Miskatonic University, and work on your occult thesis. Or just stay in bed, and hope that it all goes away!

Based on the short story "The Dreams in the Witch House" by H.P. Lovecraft.

A really outstanding Adventure

...and to be honest: the first ever that i played without the need or even thought about using a walkthrough, a hint-system or anything that spoils the tiniest bit of story or gameplay. It sucks you in and don't let you out until you have finished your business. Or be finished by it. The RPG-Elements fit the Game perfectly. What an immersion! And the second run was even more interesting than the first. Not only because some details in the Game have changed - thanks to some random elements - but because it worked out completely else than the first run. I'm not a great fan of adventure-games, so maybe for genrefans it's more of a an storyteller and not very challenging. But in my opinion it's perfectly balanced, very well shaped and gives a really outstanding vibe! Recommended - no matter what. Even if you are not into that type of game normally, or if you are no great Horror-Fan: it's a pretty unique experience and worth to make it!

New kind of point and click

Surprisingly difficult point and click. Not because of "puzzles" in the traditional sense, but because the whole gameplay loop is a kind of unforgiving puzzle in which you have to manage your many and very limited resources (time, money, energy, body heat, hunger etc) and try to maintain buffers for whatever the game will suddenly throw at you to get you off balance. Many of the core gameplay features are rather tedious and dull, like searching through the library or archives using an old fashioned index system and then search through the library or archive to find the exact book or item you are looking for. At first I didn't enjoy it but somehow it grew on me. Kind of stressful and difficult game and I can see why some people will noy enjoy it. It is a bit unforgiving and if you don't act upon an issue before it becomes too big for you to act upon, you'll very quickly end up in a loop where you get less energy which means poorer school results which means worse mental health and less money, which in turn will risk spiraling your trajectory out of control. I recommend it exactly for this reason. Its a tense and i.m.o very immersive game with a good story, great puzzles and setting, high stakes and a loot of room for approaching problems in many different ways. I would definitely give it a try but would recommend approaching the game itself as a kind of higher level puzzle and don't expect "mix this item with this and use it on that"-puzzles, like in traditional point and click-games. A very refreshing approach to the genre.

解谜和模拟相协调,干活不累

木桶理论和重蹈覆辙 游戏细节众多,全靠你目光敏锐,独具慧眼。我本打算第一次就打出好结局但还是无功而返。想一口气吃成个胖子就勉为其难了,有,游戏鼓励你带着疑问再次进入新流程,莫心灰意冷,有心急火燎,就有顺心如意的时刻。 学习曲线陡峭了点,细节埋藏得较深,玩家初遇难免生涩。不过没有敏锐的嗅觉和过人的机警,还怎么称得上神秘学家呢?木桶要盛水,谜题要解开,各个木板或任务就得齐头并进;每个线索都是“环环相扣”中的一环,要达成好结局就不得不面面俱到。解谜不至于说严苛,而是全面性。 意想不到的惊喜或差错,“闪失”就会滚雪球似的酿成大祸。结合我自己来说点知识拓展吧。游戏内的化学课提到,法国人拉瓦锡发表《燃烧概论》踹开了近代化学的大门,而我查资料看到瑞典人舍勒和英国人普利斯特里发现氧气,又坚持“燃素说”被带入偏门。后二位都只差临门一脚,三人中拉瓦锡被认为贡献最大,誉为近代化学之父。而我呢,则是在教授房间忘记试右键而迟迟推进不了。整个游戏只有这个操作必须要用右键的功能,我就无法和教授袒露心声,走下去可以选择坏结局和一般结局。牵一发而动全身。 欠缺灵光乍现和拼凑不齐线索,就容易打不开局面,陷入一知半解的尴尬境地。拖后腿的“木板”如鲠在喉,瘸腿走路很让人在意。有些并行任务相互依存,交替推进,遗漏线索会比较致命,容易导致错过“阶段性成果”,只能等待下次时机来临。不过相较于传统线性冒险,各有千秋,勾起来该死的胜负欲让人上瘾。 游戏和玩家相性问题引人注意,为了挑战性和多结局自由度,游戏牺牲了一定亲切程度。你可能手忙脚乱错过了线索,因而浪费机会重蹈覆辙,就让流程“时间紧,任务重”。时间宝贵,解谜机不可失,但又有容错空间,这就考验你的时间管理能否省下来时间,补交“学费”。 解谜需要玩家精进,吃一堑长一智,也需要制作组平衡,物品更醒目有助于缩减重来的次数。不参考攻略,自己摸索不一定一下想到:(锤子,修灯,教室化学用品柜等等)。带线性分支的冒险游戏中,我在浦岛女郎章节就曾因为遗漏唤醒她记忆的道具(黑灯瞎火,融进背景里没注意),无奈流程全推翻重来,忍痛割爱将心血付之一炬。 生活机制和难度选择 开发者因为差评后通过补丁更新又调整了难度,不过那不满意主要在生存方面的机制。难度的区别在于生存处境的遭难和恢复几率,研究会受一定干扰。剧情模式更从容一些。 正常难度下统筹规划的生存部分就休闲放松,熟悉了还好,惊讶的是我身无分文居然还能跟两个同学蹭吃蹭喝,三回啊三回,有点像在玩《疯狂农场》《疯狂水族馆》,动物死了不打紧,总有峰回路转。实在有重大变故如周转不开,就请赛沃劳德之神,这点大可安心。是否精打细算,因为有难度选择可以自行拿捏。 生存模拟与战旗 生存模拟-战旗共通之处:钱就是行动点,消费如技能、道具有大致的预期,增益和减益的一部分都由扔骰子决定,津贴对应补给。要活着都讲究顺序,现实或架空的大框架下有一定灵活自由度,只不过前者变化比较少,不需要风骚走位,也谈不上战术。找虐应该看看战旗,我听说幽浮2的铁人模式没手动存档的,挑战下破釜沉舟。 游戏里还是蛮友好,存档位够用,目前普通模式我适应得还行。而《请出示证件》要眼疾手快,整个一兢兢业业打工人,追求休闲就想多了。这游戏更侧重解谜方面的明察秋毫,机不可失,我确实愿赌服输,呃,颇有微词吧。 人在较真时最不嫌麻烦,只要肯挖掘有回报,辛苦费力也认了,谜题解开后蛛丝网般的谜面纤毫毕现,不禁拍手称快。不过《请出示证件》模拟和剧情就混为一谈了,只能时刻保持精神高度集中,《不要喂食猴子》没玩过,这俩游戏也许看别人受苦好一点。值得大书特书的是,《魔女屋中之梦》模拟和解谜搭配,干活不累,我普通模式下就能通关,卡进度的在于细节线索没找齐,可以说粗中有细了。 我乐于去挖掘埋藏的细节,和剧情节点死磕,就像读《巫师3》的书籍信件,从中发现任务的线索和世界观。话说回来,RPG里采药草抹剑油,何尝不是种模拟呢,游戏种类的界限可能没那么泾渭分明。 附加免责声明,接触的顺序至关重要,这个在故事中叫做节奏,见闻塑造了作品乃至事件在心中形象,。各人经历不同解释自然相异,随着阅历丰富起来人也是会改变观念的。比如在特定时期,碰到的某件事就点醒了你,又或填补了心灵空缺和疑虑,让你如获至宝,最终将想法一以贯之。结构也可以成为内容,比如作家时机恰当再出手,抖露包袱,就更有冲击力,试举秘鲁小说《酒吧长谈》,蒙太奇(剪辑拼接)眼花缭乱,够劲。顺便,“事件的顺序”决定人解释问题的角度这个点子最初来源于我对《魍魉之匣》的最大感触,小说里各叙述视角夹叙夹议,有些地方引发了共鸣;后续《心灵侦探城冢翡翠》我也归结为这个道理。一千个读者有一千个哈姆雷特,保不齐有误读,啊不妥,新解。
