Eyecandy, hold the controls

While everyone and their grandmother have weighed in on the graphical splendour (Too pretty for words - you really have to see it to believe it, even if it has some obvious imposed technical limitations. Fantastic atmosphere!), it goes without saying that the control scheme is NOT optimal for the PC. It's probably nice with a gamepad, but not in the slightest for keyboard-only adventurers. (Mouse makes it bearable.) But seeing as I have nothing new to add there, I'll just limit myself to pointing this little gem out: Voice acting. Yes, voice acting in pretty much any game that doesn't have Bioware's or LucasArts (RIP) logo on it has a disturbing tendency to be all kinds of awful - and Dreamfall is no exception. Or is it? Just for fun, I changed voices to Norwegian - and was instantly blown away. Pick any subtitle you like, but you owe it to yourself to experience the norwegian voices! Also noteworthy is that there are often more than one way to progress through tricky spots. For example, you can either walk right up to a not-very-nice-guy and bluff your way through, or lure him away with a pizza oven and sneak past him instead. (There's even a third option in that case: fail stealth/bluff and kick him inna nads.) Refreshing.

Great game, but could do without combat

TLDR: If you can get past the controls/combat and enjoy a good story, play it. Dreamfall: the Longest Journey is not a direct sequel to the original Longest Journey (apparently that is planned for later release after Dreamfall Chapters) but is set in the same world(s) ten years after the events in Longest Journey and involves some of the same characters. It's also a departure from the original in that it's not a point-and-click - it's 3rd-person over the shoulder. The conversation system displays a series of one-word dialogue choices which when moused-over, often indicate a direction that the conversation should follow (aggressive, friendly, tell the truth, etc.) rather than a specific sentence or phrase. I recommend always mousing over the options before selecting to make sure that you don't miss a branch. The story itself is fantastic and will send you on several twists and turns through the game world, and getting to see the game from different perspectives. At some points there are mini-games to hack or unlock things. They are fairly simple but fun and do not interrupt the story much if at all. The same cannot be said, sadly, for the combat and stealth sections, but again there thankfully aren't very many of them - or at least not many of them that will be hard/annoying. Hint: characters always block after you hit them, and you happen to have an attack that always passes through a block... you're welcome! Overall, I think the Metacritic score (75%) is almost spot-on, but for me personally I absolutely loved this game despite its flaws. If you enjoyed the first game and want more of the same style of story, or if you enjoy great story-telling in general, definitely play this game. If you haven't played the first game and enjoy point-and-click adventure games though, I'd really recommend playing the original Longest Journey first. It isn't required to play Dreamfall strictly speaking, but you will enjoy Dreamfall a lot more if you do.

One of the best

Dreamfall features great music, funny dialogues, intriguing story and good graphics. Particularly the story is very touching but also very sad. I think that Dreamfall is the only game which managed to feel me so sad after playing it. During the course of the game i fell in love with the main protagonist - Zoe and then.... I think this is why many people dislikes the game because it just ends badly but not all stories should have a happy end - that's the life.

Interesting, yes...

But can we really call that thing a game? Two or three incredibly easy puzzles, some poorly executed action or infiltration sequences, that's it. The rest is a fairly interesting -but barely interactive- 3D movie.

Amazing game

This game has horrible, horrible controls. I am sure they worked better on a console, but on PC they are just total trash. Putting that aside, this is one of the best games I have ever played. It left an impact on me that has lasted to this day. The story is so emotional as you journey through the interesting world. I don't really want to say anything else to avoid any sort of spoilage, so I will wrap this up saying that if you haven't played this game yet do yourself a favour and get it now.
