Dread Templar is a fun first-person shooter that will appeal to anyone who enjoyed the classic titles in the genre or the recent 2016 Doom reboot. It delivers over-the-top violence and classic combat sequences but also introduces more modern ideas, like the ability to slow down time when swamped by a ton of opponents.

Dread Templar is a good example of a solid boomer shooter. It's fast, the enemies are dumb yet formidable, and the level design begs for exploration. The upgrade system is quite nice but doesn't show off its capabilities until you get further into the game. Weapon types are fine until you get them really powered up. While some things are a bit unfair, with explosions reaching far beyond their intended range and enemies refusing to drop ammo, Dread Templar remains an adrenaline-pumping experience that you'll return to - as long as you aren't expecting anything revolutionary.

With a load of fun weapons to use and frontloaded with creative levels, Dread Templar is a game with a few flaws -- like its relatively repetitive final two acts -- but nothing that detracts from having an action-packed, bloody good time.

Fantastic Retro FPS, Few Minor Nitpicks
Dread Templar is a really really fun retro FPS game that feels inspired by games like Blood, Heretic and maybe even a little from Project Warlock and Doom Eternal. Here's what I really liked about Dread Templar: + Lots of levels, all really well designed: There's 5 episodes, each with around 5 levels that took me 10-30+ minutes to complete (so around 2 or 3 hours to finish an episode). Secrets are well hidden, enemies are varied with different tactics in attacking the player. + Challenging fights with fun character progression: you collect runes that upgrade the player and weapons, making you feel more powerful as you progress through the game. This does deviates from games like Amid Evil, Dusk, Ion Fury and HROT. But the upgrades are fun to play with and gives Dread Templar a more "modern shooter" feel. Since I found the default/normal difficulty a tad challenging, I'd imagine the higher difficulties will be pretty punishing. + GREAT SOUNDTRACK: Every 2 levels share the same music. Can't really blame the developer as a new track for each level seems really expensive and time-consuming for the composer. But the music is really heavy and induces plenty of head-banging. This adds to the chaotic intensity during each level. I have no complaints about Dread Templar's Music. Here's a few minor nitpicks/complaints I have that, in my opinion, could have done without. - Fixed Save Stations: you can't spam quicksave or manual saves. There are many save points scattered throughout every level. This isn't how i personally enjoy playing shooters. However, the save stations were numerous enough that it didn't bother me too much. - Instant Death Upon Fatal Falls: The only reason falling to your death bothers me in this game is because I can't quicksave before a platforming section. Not a big deal though. - Mediocre Story: Wasn't interested in the story. But it's a shooter, so who cares, right? Overall, Dread Templar is a great FPS! Highly Recommend!

Not a bad game, but not a brilliant one, either. Everything about it, from the gunplay, to the enemies, to the environment, is merely "okay". Aside from the upgrade system, nothing in particular stood out about the game, and as a result, I put it down after only about 3 hours. One major gripe I have is that the music is always blasting at 100% energy, even if all the enemies are dead, and I'm just stumbling around looking for the level exit. I wish the developers luck on their next project.

Dragging Templar
Dear God, this game is boring. Not in the first two chapters but on the third one, oh boey, you gonna start to run backwards from the hord of enemies rushing in your direction and even try to rush throught the levels avoiding boring ass combat sessions. The arsenal feels weirdly weak, even with a bunch of upgrades available, the rocket launcher is the most obinoxous, you get a lot damage from the splash but not your enemies, some of them might take even FOUR ROCKETS in the face to down. The soundtrack starts punchier but becomes very stale, and you might gonna take 30min or even more on a single level if you wanna get all the runes for upgrading, so imagine hearing the same music on loop for that long. The bosses are boring either, even the final one, it's more cheaper than fun. If you are starved from some oldschool style FPS them maybe you can consider Dread Templar on a sale, but for a full price experience, i don't think so.

Absolutely fantastic
It is really a very good mix of these old-school shooter like Quake 1 and also a bit of Painkiller. There is some key or switch hunt, but not that many. The weapons have punch, the sound is good, the enemies seems dangerouse. I like it and hope to see more in the future. The game works great on integrated graphic (AMD Vega 8) in 2560 x 1440 pixel resolutions.
