I love this game for the story, the characters, the world, the decisions, everything. I really hope they return to their roots with this series one day. To tell the truth, apart from the first time, I've always played the game with the "Raven" and "Camp Chest" mods.

The good: Well realized fantasy setting that I was glad to explore and learn about. Various choices to make which do affect events. Large amount of content. The Awakening expansion is big and impressive. What it does differently: They wanted to make a more action-oriented rpg so there are lots of special moves that cost stamina. Characters don't need to be raised or healed, they get up after a fight and health, stamina and magic is quickly restored when not in combat, unlike most other games of this sort where you need to spend resources healing your characters between fights. The bad: Numerous enemy moves will stun you or knock you down, some can knock you down and chew on you, some can even pick you up and do constant damage while you can't do anything at all. My characters spent lots of time helpless and the vast majority of reloads happened because of being knocked down or picked up by a boss. Balance issues: Some encounters are just too hard for where they are, for example the bandits that spawn at the hermit's stump or the random wolf pack encounter while travelling. It's ten wolves that will knock all your characters down and kill them quickly while helpless unless you have some crowd control spells. Especially in a game that claims to be tactical, these cheap knockdowns are really unwelcome and I feel the game would have been far better off without them. Fighters have a few moves that can prevent them from being knocked down, but in general it seems the devs really wanted characters to spend a lot of time being helpless. Anyway, I do recommend it to all RPG fans.

This is the only edition of this game that isn't plagued with crashes. Really love being able to play my favorite game again.

I've played Inquisition and Veilguard and decided I needed to play the first two as well and I don't regret that decision at all! It's really fun and the story is great so far. Love the characters too.
