This is a GREAT little game!

Downwell is an amazing little game! The monochromatic style is gorgeous, old-school goodness. Graphics and action are smooth and easy to follow (once you get the hang of it). Controls are spot-on and fluid, easy to adapt to, and just plain fun. I prefer controller, but keyboard is easy to use, too. It is obvious that the developers actually thought this one out. There is quite a lot stuff going on in this game, too: tons of power-up that you can both buy in shops on the way down the well, and that you can find in secret caves. Your gunboots will change depending on the upgrades you acquire, and this adds a cool look to each new upgrade. There are many little enemies to defeat, and some cannot be defeated with your gunboots; you'll have to stomp them on the head! At the list price, it is a steal for a really fun, fast-paced experience that is good in both short and long runs. This is definitely a game that makes you want to take "just one more run." Get this game!

Thoroughly Satisfying

This is a Roguelike... Fall-and-Gun? You have the simple premise of trying to get to the bottom of a well, with many quirks and complications along the way. You can stomp most enemies, except those who are a special color; the palette only has 3 colors (4, if you count the water), and each one is used very purposefully. You can shoot straight down, and along the way, you can find different guns, each of which have their own strengths and drawbacks. After each section, you are also given a choice of perks that last for the rest of the run. The game is really tough - my first few runs, I didn't even make it past the first stage, much less the first area! - but as you play more and more, you get further and further, goading you onward, just to see what's next. You start out in your standard cave setting, but the deeper you get, the more surreal and wonderful it gets. When you finally reach the bottom, shaking like you just stuck a fork in an electrical socket, you're absolutely pumped, and it's not long after that before it becomes easy to do. I usually don't play Hard Mode in a game, but I found myself enjoying it a lot in this one, because each area has a new twist, but a fair one. Again, you'll die a lot, constantly wondering how you'll ever survive, but in time, you'll finally beat that, too! The difficulty curve is just about perfect; it pushes back enough that you still want to go on, but it feels like you've really accomplished something once you do! You unlock different styles the longer you play, which change up the rules a bit, as well. There are also quite a lot of different palettes to unlock, most of which are quite beautiful. By the time you've mastered the game, there probably won't be much left to unlock, so this is curved well, also. Best of all, it's only 3 bucks! Definitely worth picking up.

really fun

is simple but very adrenalinic,with various styles and different weapons the action is immediate and with only one botton,you can play this game(is really minimalistic,not only the graphic)

Perfect little game

I can't even believe I only paid 79 cents on sale for this game. I feel like I've commited a crime. Seriously, what's with these developers? Don't they like money? Even the normal price is ridiculous. This is simply an absolutely genius game. Extremely addictive. Extremely polished, everything works right. What I liked best is the detail given to each enemy type, but there's a lot more. We sure don't see a lot of games like this these days, in a time where it's all style over substance, and ambition over achievement.

A great relaxing title

Even if you don't very like rogulikes (like my case) this one is pretty simple and great for just sitting down and relaxing on handheld xD
