It's DOOMI and II. And then some.

If you're looking for the classic experience and don't want to toil around with ZDOOM or GZDOOM and just want a version that has both games and a bunch of awesome addons like the unoffcial final chapters of DOOM called Sigil I and II by George Romero himself, then this version is for you! Included pre-installed are also Final Doom and Ultimate Doom maps. It's simple and unlike GZDOOM there aren't a ton settings you have to go through to tailor the experience. It's already optimal so it's just basically get into the action as quick as possible. There's support for widescreen and you can set field of view etc and you can also choose between the original midi soundtrack or THE ABSOLUTELY KICK@SS REMIX by Andrew Hulshult. I thought I would hate the remix since I'm a huge fan of the adlib/soundblaster midi sounds but holy sh*t... I even listen to it while at work or at home doing chores. It's on all big music streaming platforms. I love this version. And if you're a fan of DOOM I know you will love it too.

It isn't a review, it's an ode.

When I started, Doom was a dark magic forest to me. The first time I saw it, it ran very slowly on a weak PC. I had to play on low settings, which turned everything mushy. It overworked my imagination, so I had to shut the game down almost instantly, terrified by the moaning abominations. Soon, they began to fear me. Doom's influence on my psyche was as immense as its cultural impact. It was one of the earliest birds, so no wonder it also became overgrown with mythical rumours. Now, let me tell you what isn't a myth: playing keyboard-only. Apparently, some find it hard to believe, but I personally played Doom like that for the first few years of its existence. It just didn't occur to me to use my mouse for anything but point-&-clicks. I played it the same way I played Wolf3D: arrow keys, hold alt to strafe, ctrl to shoot, space to interact. Nothing fancy. It worked in its handicapped way.

Good port, especially for newcomers

TL;DR: Great for people who are new to the old Doom games, but is missing some control options and such. This is one of the best official doom ports that we have seen. For any newcomer to old Doom, this is definitely worth picking up. I have problems with it, but they are coming from an older Doom player. The main problem is controls. You can only use wasd with mouse to move and look around. This works, but og doom was also often played with arrow keys to look around, alt to strafe, and ctrl to shoot. This feels awkward to people who have never used this control scheme, but I prefer it for doom. There is also "mouse walk" which allows use of the mouse to walk around. This has always felt uncomfortable to me, but it's weird that's it's excluded. While I don't like using it, free look is not included which is strange. For reference, in the og Doom games you can't look up or down. This is fine, but unofficial source ports of Doom support this. It's weird that it's not officially in the game, although hopefully it will be updated. There are a few smaller problems too, like censored wads, but this doesn't matter much to me. For a more customizable control scheme, you can put the Doom and Doom 2 wads (the main code, music and more) of the games into a source port like Chocolate Doom for a more "original" experience or GZDoom, which is a source port that is modern and allows things like freelook and customizable controls. You will not be able to run this version in a DOS emulator like DOSBox due to exclusion of original game files. This port also comes with the original DOS Doom and Doom 2, so play those if you want the "true" original experience. However, this port is great for newcomers to the old games or someone who just wants a smooth experience.

I'm happy with this edition

First of all I'm glad that I received it free because I have the old ones. I don't really understand people complaining about the free mouse look, jumping, crouching. These were not in the original games, so I don't miss these. For me this version is perfect to replay the originals with widescreen, good controls, awesome soundtracks. This is nothing more, just making the old ones more enjoyable on newer computers. My only problems are the shared save slots and the censoring. I would be happy to have a similar edition of Wolfenstein3D and Spear of Destiny, but seeing the censored Wolfenstein level I think they are not brave enough to make it.

Demon killing good

It's always great to be surprised by well put together compilations. This is one. Puts the main titles together alongside the main mod Wads out there. Doesn't change the main formula and adds variation in sound mode and minor cosmetic adjustments. Free for those who already owned the games. There is a special place in our hearts that's demon killing good. 5/5
