Choices have consequenses, big and small, no meaningless feeling quests, just how I like. Sometimes the combat feels unfair, but thats just maybe because I'm not used to turnbased games.
Very good music.
Very good voiceacting
Good graphics.
Bought the definitive edition and in my 40h gameplay only two bugs. Better than any AAA I've played.
Divinity: Original Sin 2 - Definitive Edition
I'm impressed:
It runs out of the box with Linux / Lutris
no hickups no interaction, just install and good.
My friends installed the game at windows and had a lot of hickups and a massive installation of windows addons like dot net etc etc. Took them several ours to find a workaround for the black screen from launching the Definitive Edition.
Linux install was 1/5 of the time what windows took. Started everything right away.
very very nice.
Runs great with Lutris and Linux 6.6.26-1-MANJARO, GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, X11, v550.67, 2560x1440~144Hz, Ryzen 5 5600X, 32GB RAM 3600hz
Love DOS2. Bought the game on GOG, and now I have to launch GOG galaxy and then the Larian launcher and then finally the game EACH TIME. Before, I was able to simply launch the game exe, but doing so without all the launchers crashes the game during startup now. I also feel like I get a lot more crashes in general now. Will reconsider buying from GOG after this experience
I can see people giving 5 stars and I can see the game selected as GOTY on many sites. I have no problem beleiving, that this game is better than other games this year from all genres. But for me, it doesn't mean, that this game is absolutely awesome above very great games. No, it means, that the competition from all genres were mediocre at best, and this game is above medicore. So why am I not giving 5 stars but only 3? Well, I'd love to give 3 1/5, but that's not an option on this site. It's almost hitting 4 stars, but definetely not 5.
Let's see the positives:
1. Great atmosphere. There is a lot, i mean A LOT to do and whether or not the player is gonna do everything or not, it depends how long can someone fiddle around on an area. Despite some people claiming, that it can be difficult, there are some redudant side missions here, that actually won't really raise nor give any significant loot, especially if you happen to stumble upon a mission, that has 1 or 2 level lower opponents.
2. Great graphics and sound. While the birds eye view camera may not be everyone's cup of tea, the environment is drawn beautifully and the music is top notch, along with special effects and sound effects.
3. Great depth of gameplay. As I mentioned already, there is plenty to do, and nearly infinite combinations of gear and mixture of skills to be learned, as well as party selection and party training. The game can be also very long, depending how far the gamer will go to try and check everything.
Ok, so here comes the reasons for 3.5 score:
1. Inventory/loot/equipment management.
I can't think of a game, that I spent at least 50-60% of my time fiddling with my gear and equipment. It's now. literally 5 minutes travel -> find a book or a gear -> 15 min. switching gear, switching spells, identifying, selling, buying, dropping, adding, mixing, combining, cooking, expermineting, repairing compairing. It totally pulls the hault on the gameplay. And I ran out of characters to write m
Started out fun, I really enjoyed the combat and story early on in Fort Joy. Then when the game moved to Act II, it was still quite a bit of fun but the story started to make no sense. Then when it moved to Act III, the combats became impossibly difficult unless you save scum and cheese your way through them. My spellcaster was a fire mage but everything was immune to fire, so I had to become a water mage. Really disappointing. Then in the final big showdowns, I was just ready for the game to end and finally threw in the towel with the finding the Red Princess dream portal mess. At that point, you pretty much have to go online and look up strategies for how to cheese through the combat. At that point, I figured I've got better things to do and gave up on finishing the game. There's some fun to be had in here, but I wouldn't suggest playing past Act II.
