Hyped bag of hot air
Biggest disappointment of the season, Pretentious. Also, free choice never seems like free choice. And playing this masterpiece of boredom twice would indeed be a tough punishment.

at least I liked the art...
I'll admit up-front that RPG games, or whatever this is, aren't my cuppa. DE reminds me of a GUI wrapper around and old text adventure of the verb-noun type. Have Headache. Buy medicine. No Money. Get bottles. No bag. Get bag. Get bottles. Get money. Get medicine. Get out. Go insane. Hooboi we be adulting now! I didn't make it any further than that because that's about the time the narrarator's voice began to sound patronizing. Game throws in adult stuffs for color, a discriminator. It probably tested well with the snickering 14-year-old market. It does succeed at being bleak and conveying a sense of hopelessness that was in equivalent portions to the fun I was having playing. Playing DE is not so much a fun distraction as it is a chore. A tedious one you did back in the 80's. But the art was cool. Go west. Open door. Leave.

Havent managed to play more than 30 mins
...before uninstalling it again. You start off with this long twisted dialogue you need to click through.. I like adventures normally, I also would not mind those type of dialogue as a cut scence. But without context its just some pseudo witty querky deep storyline, when it stayed this way for the next minutes, I just gave up. I can see how some people like it -- can be a great fit to the right audience --, I cant see how it ended up on a lot of the best game of the year rankings.

A badly written book in game form.
The game gives you lots of abilites but most of them are usless. You truly believe that you have choice but you don't. Your character is going to lose no matter what (not in an interesting way). You need shiver, rhetoric, perception, and suggestion to get any decent ending. most of the coversations just waste your time and add nothing to the story. the fact that so many praise this game, makes me weary of trusting any reviews on GOG. Its a shame. I would really like a stylish detective crpg but this isn't a game. It's badly written book pretending to be a game. I want money and my time back. My god. what have wasted my precious time on? GOD: Most people have bad opinions. next time trust your gut. if you sense artsey-fartsie hipster nonsense in a game then Don't buy it. Thanks God! GOD: No problem!
