It's everything you remember.
This game holds up well. It has everything that I remember: - Unforgiving enemies. - Long walks back to town because I forgot to carry a scroll of town portal. - Inventory management that has all the fun of packing your luggage, complete with the Wizard's audio of "Where would I put this?" - The clickings. THE CLICKING. I've been playing lots of Diablo III lately. It's a game that gives you infinite scrolls of town portal, health potions that refill magically in a short time, and inventory management that doesn't require memorizing the shape of each item. Those are all things that help the game flow into a thrilling animated picture where monsters fear you, and you can rush back to town any time you want. This game is much different. It's slower. It's harder. It forces you to make decisions and backtrack through levels. It builds patience and rewards you slowly. You fear monsters and death takes you back to your last save point. The save button is the only redeeming factor of this game: you are allowed to save, and it will be the most often used game mechanic. There are lots of games on GOG that don't work as well on modern machines due to changes in computers over time. Not so with this game. You get everything the game had using the original mechanics. I loved it then and I love it now. The only thing that would make this better is if GOG would drop the Hellfire expansion.
