The year is 2052 and the world is a dangerous and chaotic place. Terrorists operate openly - killing thousands; drugs, disease and pollution kill even more. The world's economies are close to collapse and the gap between the insanely wealthy and the desperately poor grows ever wider. Worst of all, an ages old conspiracy bent on world domination has decided that the time is right to emerge from the shadows and take control.

You'll get your money's worth, that's for sure. Sure, the story sometimes drags and sometimes goes into some weird places sometimes, but there's hours and hours of stuff to do, sidequests and all, and it goes by at such a fast clip and so many gameplay choices early on have strong effects later on. Yeah, like all games the later levels suffer from "fourth disc" syndrome, where it seems to drag and just won't end, but that could also be because you don't want to stop playing. It's the mark of a great game that even when you aren't having fun anymore playing it (because you've played multiple 8-hour sessions on a work night) you still feel like you should be playing it.
Playing at least the first act of Deus Ex should be considered mandatory for any self-respecting gamer.
One of the first (and only) game to successfully mix a FPS with RPG elements. It allows the player to build the character that he/she wants, and it also have intelligent and philosophical questions at its core. This long game can also be replayed a number of times to see all the different possibilities.
Dark, dystopian, cyberpunk, with a great level design and an awesome scenario, Deus Ex is an unforgettable experience.
This games story has one of the most profound stories ever. This game has caused me to think philosophically about the topics such as AI, human freedom, and many others. This is a game with a lot of lore and much of it is very relevant in real life, even today. From a story, script, and idea standpoint this game was ahead of it's time.
You play as JC Denton. A nano-augmented special agent killing machine that likes to tase people and throw basketballs at his boss (maybe that's just me). You start off attempting to recover a vaccine from a terrorist organization. But, eventually you'll uncover a complicated conspiracy that you, the messiah, will have to participate in so you can also stop it.
The cyberpunk theme of this game gets inspiration (IMO) from Ghost in the Shell and Metal Gear Solid. It touches on some the points brought up in both of those game, but the main focus is on conspiracies and rumors based on real life. Organizations such as Majestic 12 and the Illuminati were (and probably are) still around.
To bring to present day 2020, there is currently a COVID-19 pandemic, socioeconomic issues, protesting, and even some authoritarian acts by our own government. In Dues Ex, you have the Grey Death, economic depression, violent riots, rebel uprisings, and of course more extreme authoritarian acts by the very organization that JC works for.
When you play this game and pay attention to the newspapers and what the general way society is in game, you'll get a little creeped out about how familiar it might be.
Anyway, game mechanics are first-person shooter with options for lethal and non-lethal approach. Stealthy approach takes a bit longer, but you'll more likely stay alive that way. You gain skill points to upgrade your skills and augmentation upgrades to gain new abilities. It's a fun system to tinker with.
Graphics are dated, but mods are there to fix this issue.
IMO everyone should play this game at least once. Its that good and worth it. Get it now!
I am a huge RPG fan, and this game is both a RPG and something more. There's no class or role or good/bad system, you can be enything you want.
I completed the game 3 times, and everytime as a different character, and everytime was like playing a different game. The gameplay was different, the story was different, the NPC responses were different. And everytime I had a lot of fun!
