As you get faster and more lethal you can unlock even more race modes and secret cars. But beware - 19 other Dethkarz racers are out there trying to win at any cost.
We built Dethkarz from the ground up to exploit the awesome capabilities of the latest 3d accelration technology. SO the visuals and gameplay are sure to blow you away - if the other Dethkarz don't get you first!
4 racing encironments each with 3 tracks: Metro City, Grand Keys, The Pole and the Red Planet.
12 selectable cars with individual handling, combat and racing characteristics.
Ultra cool car dynamics and track layouts allow for awesome jumps and stunts.
3 different race classes and hidden vehicles for enhanced replay value.
Weapons, speed and no guardrails with nice cyberpunk(ish) atmospherics and good arcade handling makes a winning combo in this game. It's basically Wipeout with wheels. Did I mention it has an awesome raging electronic soundtrack. Definitely worth the five to six bucks.
Couple of notes:
Make sure to go into the "Graphic" menu option and then the "Customise Performance" menu to tweak this game's settings even further. For some odd reason the audio high/low settings is in there and not the "Sound" options menu. Setting the audio to high quality makes a big difference in this game. Much cleaner. Supports both Glide and DirectX 3D.
DethKarz has been a staple of my collection of gems since around 2000 when I got it from a Polish videogame magazine. I've revisited it many times since, always enjoying it a lot. It's fast-paced, has a good soundtrack, and physics balanced towards high speeds and arcade-like action. It can seem a bit lackluster in its content - just 12 different tracks set on 4 "worlds" of varying difficulty + only a handful of powerups - but it makes the most out of it and never feels boring.
Strong recommendation for this one!
I first played this game 18 years ago (April 2001), but back then I couldn't handle driving and shooting controls at the same time that well. Thankfully, I resolved this issue with my sister : I shoot stuff, while she was driving. Best times :)
First and foremost : Adjust your graphics setting to 60FPS (default is 30FPS) - it will make game and menus MUCH smoother. Music for game menu may not respond to volume settings inside game, if you encounter this, I advise to decrease volume level after it launches (simple "Alt + Tab"), from Windows mixer settings.
Game starts with 4 base maps and four base vehicles.
You can unlock new stuff (longer tracks and car classes), with progress on "Championship" mode.
For example : To unlock better class of cars, player has to complete 12 races with lower class cars.
In case you are wondering : To get Iridium class cars, you need to win three championships on four Short, four Medium and four Long tracks respectively.
Game ends with MASSIVE 12 track championship back to back.
Unlocked cars and tracks can be used in both "Arcade" and "Time trial" modes.
There is no car moding, but you can choose what basic weapon you want on your car (pulse lasers or plasma cannon).
As for powerups during the race, you can expect :
Shields (two defensive, one offensive), three types of Missiles ("radar-seeking", "heat-seeking", and direct/no targeting - all are fire-and-forget type), Mine fields (mines react to how you are driving at the time), Repair and Rocket booster.
Your car can explode during the race (when it's energy is reduced to 0), so Repair and going on "healing" track are important.
Overall : Highly recommend !
Game has beautiful graphics, good sound track (wish it could be downloaded seperatly), and is a LOT of fun. Biggest issues is with only 12 tracks overall on four "sets", which may make it quite short overall.
At least, tracks themselves are REALLY varied and Medium/Long sized ones get special terrain features ;)
This one belongs to the less than 1% of the games here that I had to buy immediately. Apart from that it has an engaging soundtrack and nicely designed tracks what had impressed me about this game was the handling - sometimes I was literally driving on the edge, but it was always manageable. The game is also good for living out one's "schadenfreude": Sometimes for example it's a great joy to eliminate a rival in the very last second on the finishing line. When you have reached the harder tracks there is a lot going on on the tracks. Once the race started with 20 cars and only seven made it to the end. This is a very consistent game which I can easily recommend, especially at this price.
This is absolutely not a simulator, but great arcade racing it is. I have owned it since it was released and it has been installed on all computers from that point. I will focus on the gameplay as you can read the other reviews for the description.
It is a little easier to drive using an analog or wheel joystick compared to using the arrow-keys and [Shift]/[Ctrl], but with a little experience you will become good using even the keyboard.
If you choose the plasma cannon as your main weapon, please note that holding the [Shift] key down a little before releasing it will increase the firepower.
There are many shortcuts on the various tracks so try to jump off a curve if it seems possible.
This game also have a built-in cheat-system.
Press and hold [Ctrl]+[Shift]+[C] on the main screen to change the ABOUT menu choice to CHEATS. Click on CHEATS, type one or more of the following codes separated by [Enter]:
GLOBAL - All tracks are selectable
DEV 6 - All cars are selectable
RACE CORPS - All seasons are selectable in Championship Mode
TATSU MAKI - More fire power
PEP! - All powerups are turbo powerups
H-PLUS - Invulnerability
In my view, the built-in cheat system is great to be able to play all tracks and cars in Arcade mode.
Hope it helps :)
