Rufus is not a pleasant guy. Ill-tempered and entirely too convinced of his own greatness, he lives at the edge of a small settlement somewhere in the most remote sector of the garbage-covered planet Deponia. He dreams of a better life in the floating cities of wealth and beauty high above the planet surface. When the angelic Goal falls from these privileged spheres down into a neighboring trash heap, Rufus sees his chance. He decides to bring the unconscious beauty back to her home. Only a vague hope of making it off Deponia at first, he soon formulates an unscrupulous plan, as he learns that he is a dead ringer for Goal’s upper-class husband. The planned handover is only the beginning of a wild chase across Deponia full of twists, turns and mystifying mix-ups.

About the game there is not much to say really: It's a fun adventure, the puzzles are good (sometimes there is not enough guidance), good voice acting, the characters are well designed.
The offer: Great. Adding the german language pack makes this a must-buy.
More offers like this one please :)
Sometimes I stumble across a boring game, and this was it. If you like rich story, great dialogues, nice puzzles and so on - this is not the game for you. The gameplay also offers very little, and rarely awards the player. It has nice art, nice music and feel to it. It just fails with everything else.
I really wanted to like this game. I love point and clicks but Deponia is far more frustrating than fun.
The puzzles are ridiculous - half the time it's more trial and error of all the ingredients than any logical sense. So many times after completing one I'm just dumbfounded at how that was supposed to make any sense or be at all fun. I could go on and on about the lacking quality of the puzzles but.. oh the story.
The story of Deponia is so simplistic and bland. In the first few minutes or pretty much from any description of the main character you'll know basically how the whole thing is going to go. It's not exciting, it's not original or very creative, it's not much of an adventure. And the humour is IMO extremely weak and in poor taste. The main character is a shallow, narcissistic jerk. Unless that's something you want to live, and you like viewing other people as tools or objects for your own means, and you like jokes about this being thrown at you over and over in slightly differing shades, it really is just a tiring experience.
The art and music are decent but the game lags constantly (it's not my PC) and some of the sounds get repeated constantly and this happens over and over - really takes away any chance of immersion there. There are several screw-ups in the dialogue and text that show the lack of polish in the game. The overall fluidity was about non-existent. I really can't believe all the fanatic reviews about this game. It doesn't even come close to comparing to the classics like so many claim.
Unlike some people here I had no prior experience with point-and-click adventures, but I feel like this was a good choice for introducing myself to the genre. The story was fun and took some unexpected turns, the puzzles were never overly frustrating, the humor was great (albeit repetitive in specific places, but you can click through the dialogue so it never irritated me too much), and the German voice acting was pretty good, even if a bit overdone. The animation was indeed stiff, but this, too, didn't detract from the game very much. The pacing was good (hint: you can double-click on destinations), and the last section of the game really clinched it for me, especially the ending!
Personally, I find the puzzles were pretty decent and creative and didn't really veer into crazy territory, as I had heard some other games of this genre tended to do. The only times I was randomly combining items were when I had overlooked something that was obvious in retrospect. There are plenty of in-game hints, too, and a few times I had figured out what to do but had missed a place to click on or thought I had tried something when I hadn't. Once I found out what to do the game gets right back on track. (The lesson for me is to not play these sorts of games when I'm tired.)
Technically the game ran fine, there were some minor nits where I had to restart the game (possibly due to my dual-monitor setup), but I never once lost progress; the game continued right where I left off. There was *one* puzzle where I had to reload from a save because I skipped it and left it in a state where I couldn't finish another puzzle. At least that's what it looked like. It didn't break the game for me, however, but *was* annoying.
All in all, this was a very good game, even if some aspects of it are, so-to-say, very well-trodden, I'm still buying the rest of the series on the strength of this title alone and am looking forward to also buying other games from this team.
