Fresh Dungeon Crawling

Initially i thought i was too minimalistic until i started playing the game more. It takes away a lot of the useless mechanics from WIZARDRY and adds new interesting layers to the game. Party balance, strategy and survival skills are crucial (as in any old school dungeon crawler). The soundtrack is amazing, the atmosphere is really capturing and the art style is great (very AD&D monster manual like). The dungeon itself is very classic and uses the wizardry 20x20 squares format. With all the similarities aside, the game is very different to Wizardry in various things. Combat is much more diverse, strategic and character classes are quite varied in their uses and damage types (a crucial mechanic in the game). As many classic dungeon crawlers, you will need to use graph paper and pencil to map out the game (not for everyone, only real dungeon fans will like this). In general, i highly reccomend the game considering the price. If you are a Fan of the NES and SNES Wizardry games, Shadow Tower on the PSONE and Dark Spire this game is for you.

Great Style but Lacking Gameplay Loop

First off, for real, the game has style in spades. I'm glad I picked up and played for awhile if only to see some of the great art and atmosphere they built with this one. I only played into the second floor, for context. About 4, maybe 5 hours in total. Some things that were great otherwise: Variety of character types to recruit, certain trap mechanics like disappearing doors, [SPOILER AHEAD] fighting previous party members that had died as undead [END SPOILER]. You could tell a lot of heart went into this game despite it's low key setting and story prompt. As to my title mentioning it is lacking, I've seen it praised for it's simplicity but I have the opposite opinion. I do like games with simplicity and great art, such as Kingdoms which I've spent far too many hours to be reasonable, but this game went a little too far given that it's a dungeon crawler. The game play loop was sorta fun at first but rapidly become rather boring. Some notable aspects that felt missing include it not having a search option from the party menu, being able to use skills outside of combat or boost spells, and certain things of interest like chests not being visually a part of the world. Items you get out of chest seemed mostly pointless. Potions that restored a small amount of hp/mp that resting could restore easier, or a boost to a stat you could just get into a fight to improve instead. Finding a chest was never exciting to me. Otherwise, a big turn off was how prevalent secret walls were. The first floor has over a dozen and this ruined their mystique immediately. To be clear, I'm a huge fan of this genre and the first thing I did was read the whole manual, and even run to the store to buy graph paper to make maps as soon as I realized I was out currently. So I really, truly, wanted to love this game. I'll be keeping an eye on what the developers come out with next, I just hope it'll have a bit more too it mechanic wise than this did. Here's hoping their next one is a hit.

A Maze with monsters

I like the game for its atmosphere, the graphics you see on the store page says it all. the black and white slightly ghostly look of the monsters works for it. I like the simplicity of it, there is no equipment beyond maybe you will find something in a treasure chest and that may increase a stat. So far not seen any shops or any inventory even and for once that is nice. I can just jump into this dungeon maze and focus on the business of killing monsters and finding an exit to go deeper into the dungeon to find more monsters. There is not an auto mapper within the game so you will have to make your own map and that is why I would call it a dungeon maze game with monsters. I am trying to go by memory alone on finding my way around and I am happy that I can find my way around with doing that. Feels like I am actually playing something. You will lose characters and you will have to get ones to replace the lost ones and if you get wiped out then you will have to pick a whole new squad but replacments are of similar stats of the previous lost characters. The dungeon will still be waiting for your new members. I never thought I would like a maze type game but I do like this one for its simplicity you pick how to fight you unlock skills and its a nice fresh take on recent years. Simplistic usually means cartoony interface or overly simplistic graphics. In this game, simplistic is how the user can play the game and not be bogged down by armor class, making money, get a +1 damage sword the game says NO! This game says you control the adventurers now go enjoy the Dungeons. Sometimes you just want to play a game like this and not a "data analyst sim" which unfortunately is how too many games are feeling. I like Demon Lord Reincarnation, there are many better games out there but sometimes you just want to be able to relax and play and that is what this does in my opinion. Downside? Could do with more variety of things happening both positive and negative.

Great Game

I don't normally play these types of games, but I have been loving it. Perfect chill game at night. Atmosphere is great, game is simplistic but not too much so. I truly have enjoyed playing this game, I hope they release expansion content or a second.
