Things were going well for Azra, the sheltered Royal Librarian. There were books to sort, dust, and put away, important royal documents to transcribe. All this was swept away by the deadly plague that devastated the Kingdom of Ash. The plague killed quickly, so quickly that no one has the time to bury the dead, instead they are thrown, without ceremony, into the Pit. Azra, infected with the plague, is cast into the Pit. Soon, she finds herself in the Half-Way World, the place between life and death and learns of her true power--that of being able to bring anyone into the Half-Way World with her. Now, she must traverse the Pit in the hopes of finding the cause of the plague and must fight to not only save herself but the Kingdom as well.

This is probably as much fun you can have with a tower defense game. It's horribly addictive. Every time I sit down for a short battle or two I end up using a few hours instead.
One reason for this is that battles are actually fairly quick (and you will run a lot of them on x2 or x4 speeds). It makes the temptation to run just another round so tempting.
The RPG type trappings (leveling and skill increments) also makes the game more fun though the customization you can do to your "characters" is still limited.
Love the humor in the cut scenes and the RPG development of each of your units makes you much more interested in them than just placing random structures and applying 'upgrades'. Have been having fun playing this with my daughters as they are enjoying the story and watching the battles and I appreciate how even if you fail a level you can still gain some experience and currency for the attempt which makes even losses seem worth their time and helps get stronger to go back and win that level.
Having multiple difficulties for each level is also appreciated.
Good game. I'm enjoy it a lot more then I thought I would, funny writing from some characters. One annoyance, you need to visit GoG to get updates and that is a bit. . . Easy to miss when on the GoG page.
I've always loved free tower defense games, but this is the first one I've risked buying. And man, was it worth it. I was expecting it to be fun, but this is quite plainly the best Tower Defense game I've ever played. Great maps, variety, and characters, and it even gives you the option to speed up experience gain if you don't like to grind, or decrease money gain if you feel like the game's too easy. And the story is actually very good as well. If you're a fan of strategy games or RPGs, this game hits both points. Definitely worth a buy.
Tower defense with personality. Like for real for real, your "towers" are people that you meet along the way. Make leveling up / enhancing them feel more meaningful. Good store, with a nice mix of humor. Great replay-ability.
