Based on the multi-million selling Fighting Fantasy book series by Ian Livingstone, Deathtrap Dungeon is the ultimate dungeon hack and slasher!

  • Fight against 50+ monsters ranging from fire-breathing dragons and exploding pigs to demonic dungeon dwellers and the undead!

A Poor Game That Hasn't Aged Well

If you are excited that GOG.com now has Deathtrap Dungeon, it's because of the following reasons: 1. Nostalgia And that's about it. The original game was poor in quality even for its time. It was one of the original Eidos titles that followed in the wake of the vastly superior Tomb Raider, and it pretty much gets everything wrong -- poor level design, awful controls, dull character design (with prominent boobs!) and little replayability. At the time, it was considered action/horror, but the genre has drastically evolved since then. The title might suggest that this game is something in the vein of Orcs Must Die! or Dungeon Keeper. But don't be fooled -- it's a fairly dull hack and slash from the era when blocky 3D graphics were still a novelty.

Agreed - but for one point

OK, I bought this game also, thinking that it looked good, but the only thing memorable about it - apart from the poor game play - was the voiceover int the beginning by Paul Darrow (Avon from Blake's 7). Fans of Mr Darrow may enjoy this. Fans of computer gaming will probably not!

As bas as I expected it to be

The terrible FPS-engine makes you literaly vomit, the auto-camera is unacceptable, the controls are like someone retro-enginereered from what worked in controls to unfunctioning mess, the female character-design I think was stolen from Dungeon Keeper 2, the character names are something that'll make you figuratively vomit... So yes, this is your usual licenced game. One of the worse ones. And no, it doesn't even remotely resembles the gamebook-version. And the intro-movie does not work. I took it for 1$, novelty-purpose,and it's really what it worth.

Totally immersive sword and sorcery

Deathtrap Dungeon was ranked at #69 in Ultimate PC's Top 100 Games of All Time list in their 1998 issue. You can play as either Chaindog, who manages some pretty amazing acts of manual dexterity, or as Red Lotus, the heroine armed with a huge sword who certainly knows how to use it. This is a totally immersive world of sword and sorcery, full of atmosphere and things that want to eat you, and is no doubt up there as one of the best games of it's style on the PC.

Buggy Buggy!!!

I remember having this game in the late 90's... It was hell of buggy and hard to play... The game-book from where the game originated was much better!!!
