Short but packed w/ atmospheric content
In the zombie-infested war-zone that has become Seattle, you play Randall Wayne, a husband and father, trying to find his wife and daughter. As you progress through the game, you pick up clues as to why the world is the way it is now, and meet a couple of characters, solving little puzzles to progress and occasionally learning to memorize patterns of repetitious key combinations to execute a series of moves that gets you through an area without dying. What strikes me about this game is the detail. The developer has crafted a really tight game with all of the scenery, music, acting and extras to evoke a dark, subtle horror environment. Every scene is gritty and overcast. It really brings you into the world and encourages you to experience every level without just trying to run through it as quickly as you can. There are less than 5 hours of gameplay here, but each hour is impressively packed with atmosphere and story. If you don't want to just run through and "beat the game", there is certainly enough extra stuff to enjoy along the way with a book full of clippings you pick up as you go, Randall's journal for some back-story, and director's cut extras such as concept art and "making-of" videos. The controls can get frustrating at times. I would often shuffle over a wall and try to jump down and end up shuffling back over the wall to the other side, for example. In some parts of the game, this can get you quickly killed. Starting from the last check-point will probably happen often--but the game is so well-done otherwise that I couldn't take a star off of the rating for it.
