Originally released by LucasArts in 1993 as a sequel to Ron Gilbert’s ground breaking Maniac Mansion, Day of the Tentacle is a mind-bending, time travel, cartoon puzzle adventure game in which three unlikely friends work together to prevent an evil mutated purple tentacle from taking over the world!
Now, over twenty years later, Day of the Tentacle is back in a remastered edition that features all new hand-drawn, high resolution artwork, with remastered audio, music and sound effects (which the original 90s marketing blurb described as ‘zany!’)
Players are able to switch back and forth between classic and remastered modes, and mix and match audio, graphics and user interface to their heart's desire. We’ve also included a concept art browser, and recorded a commentary track with the game’s original creators Tim Schafer, Dave Grossman, Larry Ahern, Peter Chan, Peter McConnell and Clint Bajakian.
Day of the Tentacle was Tim Schafer’s first game as co-project lead, and a much beloved cult classic! This special edition has been lovingly restored and remade with the care and attention that can only come from involving the game's original creators.

played this in early 90's, why are all these remasters exclude XP? Many gamers like me have an xp game machine, because it is far more backwards compatible than win 7, 8 or 10. Not a review more of a comment/question.
Cannot run this one on MacOS, it just wants to delete the installed game, because it's corrupted. The same goes with Full Throttle Remastered... i'm a sad panda now...
The game itself is a cult classic and fun to play. By now, we should all know that. So, let's put down those rose-colored glasses and look at the remake.
But the remake is something you either love or hate. I loved the remakes of Grim Fandango and the Monkey Island games, but this one is dodgy.
The voice acting is HORRIBLE for most characters (except for Edna and Bernard), and I mean not even "fun cheesy", but boring and dreadful. It takes all the fun and joy right out the game. Plus, the subtitles most of the time take longer than the voice acting, resulting in a pause after some lines. So... Punchlines be gone! You can't even use the skip option, because 95% of the time it skips the rest of the dialog, and you miss the rest. And it never got fixed, thanks Double Fine.
Obviously, the sound is way better than the original Soundblaster sound, as far as quality goes. But the "revised soundtrack" is dry and uninspired, sounding like some MIDI on a better soundcard. Nope, not convinced on that.
But I will give them that the remake is as close to the original as you can get: graphics and animations look like they exactly redrew the original ones. That being said, I didn't really like the new "smooth" graphics and ... yeah.
I switched to classic mode for the rest of the game. Sorry, but this remake is not my cup of tea. :-(
This is one flawed remaster. The dialogue-skipping feature is bugged, even causing events to trigger with quite a delay, the "remastered" graphics just look odd, Maniac Mansion has no save slots, there are countless more bugs other people are experiencing. Especially the delays are off-putting. They should've playtested this botchjob properly before unleashing it on us. It's just no fun with all the irregularities. The only reason why i even give this 3 stars is for the undeniable quality of the original game. If the bugs get fixed, i'll revise my rating to a 4. If they lower the price to be just a bit above a regular good old game, i might even give a 5 and a "RECOMMENDED BY MRMARIODAVE" seal of approval.
