I really enjoyed this game, played both previous games and the differences are refreshing.
Well made and a great combat system.
Give the game a chance and you're unlikely to go wrong.
The game is a good sequel to the first two darksiders games, if played with the Classic combat option enabled. It takes some of the mechanics from the Dark Souls Series e.g. losing your sould (experience points) on respawn only items will survive a respawn. In my opinion this game is not for people who are looking for real souls-like game, it is only for people who like the darksiders universe and its characters.
World,, story, lore, writing, Dialogs, voice acting, atmosphere, main character goes through a self-development journey, other characters are also rounded and continuously rounding, in and out of character jokes, etc - all amazing and on par with the other installments in the series.
A huge story bonus points from me comes from the plots main twist, which was done right as the writers cleverly planted the early signs in a subtle way. Since I'm a spoiler-free kind of gamer, when the twist came my jaw dropped and I rushed to a "full movie" video on youtube (the ones which chains together only cut scenes, in-game character sentences, etc.) only to have my jaw dropped again to see how all was there, subtly integrated into the game.
Combat - the game's dominant mechanic - is fun and dynamic, mechanics themselves are very fluid and the character / weapons development part compliments the combat mechanics very well.
Its a Darksiders installments, so there is backtracking, but it felt some what lessened then the two previous ones.
Highly recommended on its own and a must for Draksiders fans.
*Own it on a different client.
I REALLY wish that I liked this game since it is so much to like about the game. The graphics are great,on my I7 7700 computer with a GTX1060 6GB and 32GB memory it runs smooth in 4K @60Hz with "Epic" settings.I usually do not like games with A LOT of cut scenes as in this game. But I really like the cut scenes in this game, the same way that I like the mythology and how it is portrayed in the game.
BUT:When it comes to the most important aspect of the game, how it is to play the game, this game is HORRIBLE!!!I hate it when it is not possible to save games when I want, and this game might have THE WORST implementation I have ever come across in this regard! The checkpoints are too far apart, and often placed where least needed! This results in that you have to play through the same sequences, fight the same monsters ("everything" re spawns EVERY time you die!),and find your way through the 3D labyrinths time after time after time after...........every time you die!!!!!And you will die OFTEN in this game:It is horribly unbalanced.Countless times I have fought countless monsters and then suddenly I would die because one or two enemies drained a HUGE amount of my health in one single attack!!!And countless times I tried to replenish my health and STILL DIED!!!Seems to me that when you need to replenish you health the most, when under attack and almost dying it is impossible to do so in this game:You can not attack or be under attack to be able to replenish health!!!ONLY when you stand still while not being attacked or attacking,THEN you can replenish your health. That is unless you have died in the meantime!!!!Add that to a system for directing you where to go that often is more confusing than helpful when directing you only in 2D in a 3D game,I believe that I have spent somewhere between 2/3 to 3/4 of my time in this game backtracking and going in circles after dying/trying to find out where to go and getting more and more bored and annoyed in stead of having a good time :-(
I'm a big fan of Darksiders 1, I enjoyed the mix between beat them all action and Zelda like puzzle, and the Art Design manage to be over the top without being too much.
Darksiders 2 is for me a good improvement over the fist one, with better platforming, better character building and a more enjoyable protagonist...
Forget about all that for Darksiders 3...
The gameplay is a cheap imitation of Dark Soul, which kill the whole power fantasy. We are supposed to play a Rider of the Apocalypse, not a random guy lost in the mess. The game is unecessary frustrating in its difficulty, being hard for no reason... The difficulty setting doesn't help (ennemies are less damaging, but not environnement hasard, and the checkpoint system is still bad)
You could say, with reason in the sense, that it's because i don't like Dark Soul... Well, fine, but the rest is also bad !
Fury has a corrosive personnality, which isn't fun to follow, the lore start to get messy with yet another faction to kill... and the art isn't up to D1/D2...
In short, I don't recommand it, better to replay DarkSiders1 or Darksiders2 !
