The simple fact is this one was just released too early, despite several delays. While the PC version thankfully is nowhere near as broken as the PS4 version was there are still far too many moments where polish is lacking and too many strange bugs that can pop up out of nowhere. The graphics look nice, the main character voice acting is nice, but the game just does not work the way it should. Far too often saw characters stop moving their lips or randomly transition to different poses, AI for the most part seems content to stand and shoot or run into cover and sit there, and you find random bugs that range from getting stuck climbing a ledge to finding yourself unable to shoot in a mission.
Maybe after a major patch of two they'll get it to where it should have been at launch, and it'll be worth checking out then.
The not-bad:
Main story and "primary" side-quests are well written, well acted and generally pretty interesting. Some feel cut short and unfinished, but it is clear the vast amount of the "polish" this game got is here.
Gunplay is average for an action game. Fair weapon variety, cool design, fairly fun to use, but nothing too crazy. Held back by the super basic and often broken enemy AI.
Beautiful, vertically designed city/open world. From broad, open streets flanked by impressively tall buildings to maze-like cramped warrens. Shame it is simultaneously one the least "alive" feeling open worlds.
The bad or downright awful:
Sadly, pretty much everything else, and the character limit is far too small to do this mess justice. To summarize it, I would say the game currently feels like a promising Alpha build or a cynical MVP (minimal viable product) - every system is extremely buggy and rough - from awful performance to a plethora of visual, AI and quest trigger bugs; entirely unbalanced in terms of skills, economy, player upgrades and a pointless, empty, unreactive open-world.
Upgrades are mostly boring % increases and it is way too easy to spec yourself into infinite money or functional invulnerability.
AI is as basic as it can possibly be AND breaks frequently. Non combat NPCs and cars on the street have the most limited set of responses of any open world game I've ever played.
No RPing in this not-RPG (CDPR is no longer calling this game an RPG in any of the post-launch materials, which is the most honest marketing they've done so far). All the cool, reactive, branching out narrative shown in the promo material? Only exists in that one main quest we've all seen, nowhere else in the game.
The official hardware requirements are misleading at best - on a machine that exceeds the "Recommended" specs I struggled to play at 30-40 FPS, 1080p even at lowest settings. You'll need to go way above "Recommended" specs to make it look and play decently.
This is not PC game. It ignores what PC is, and everything in the game is maded for consoles and console players.
There just few option for keyboard, almost nothing for mouse. And btw mouse cursor is maded in the way, that you dont know, what you can click, or if you clicking or not. If you clicked or didnt.
Almost every aspekt of the game is bugged somehow. Sound, graphic, game control, some quests, texts, interaction with player... Everything got some minor problem.
User interface and player inventory is pure hell. Is almost imposible to manage what your character is wearing and what weapons it has.
Majority of all side quests are all the same. They are extremly boring and repetive. No variety.
Main quest storyline is awesome.
Graphic is sometimes awesome masterpiece and sometimes worse then 20 years old cheap 3D games.
Nightcity is dead city without life. Cars and people are just sprites. They do not exist in the city.
Police is maded from special sprites which teleports to you from all sides and kill you, if you someone dislikes you or if you accidently hurt or accidently kill someone. And sometimes even if you kill dangerous criminal.
There is no AI behavior of those sprites.
Dangerous gang members can explode Police Car and kill civilians without penalty just next to the snanding police and police does nothing.
And oposite, if you walk on the street, the Police or other gangs can insta kill just for walking.
The game is just ok.
Played on pc so none of the bugs or glitches bothered me or were game breaking.
Sadly however the main story line is quite short and the side gigs mostly quite boring.
Would recommend waiting for a sale to buy the game since it is definitely not worth paying full price.
I love the witcher series and cyberpunk pales in comparison, the characters and the world are nowhere near as interesting.
Would reiterate that the game is still worth playing but it could have been churned out by pretty much any random studio.
As of release, the game is unfinished. Plain and simple.
After watching the teaser in 2013 and after 7 years development and multiple delays, the game launches. It's buggy on PC, unplayable on console and only a skeleton. No cop AI, no changing character after the first screen, no tattoos, no modification of cars, no civ AI, a storylane that seems rushed and cut, worthless lifepaths and no GANG INTERACTON?!
The only thing the game has is some decent FPS missions, but the RPG element is gone. Forgotten. Rushed and stashed as a future DLC is my guess.
Do not buy. Buy it in a year or two. I have 36 hours so far and the only feeling left is sadness. I am totally bummed they lied us all in the face and used their good will from Witcher 3 to cash in on Cyberpunk. The leadership of CDPR should be ashamed.
Nevertheless, if you do not care about RPG elements and want a fancy shooter with horrible storytelling, be my guest.
