When this game launched I heard about a lot of the bugs, and then I experienced some of them very early when I tried to play. I shelved the game for a year so as to not ruin it for myself while CDPR fixed and patched, and I've just completed my first full play through.
In 30+ years of playing video games from OG Duke Nukem to today's AAA titles I have _never_ felt more attached to a character or NPCs in a game. This story absolutely blew me away. 7/5 stars I cannot recommend this game enough. The only disappointment I have is that it's over for now.
Alright.
Heres the deal, its an epic game that is absolutely amazing to play, (just not on a five to seven year old potatoe machine -_-)
So yeah gunna ignore the dumb hate for the glitches as everyone forgets how glitchy W3 was, or any of the other greats we all love when it comes to iconic RPGs first releases. All the glitches are fixable and are being constantly fixed by CDPR.
I logged most of my 250 hours of gameplay on a Gaming laptop by MSI (MSI GTX 62 VR Dominator Pro) running a NVIDIA GTX 1070.
Moving on.
PROs
The story is absolutely amazing. CDPR crushes it as usual when it comes to story writing and telling. I was engaged from start to finish.
I was fully invested in the dynamic between Johnny and V. Very well done and makes you question A LOT in life lol.
the environment is amazing as well. CDPR truly did create a living city.
Combat is epic and fast paced.
I really enjoyed the dynamic between corporations and the rest of the population in regards to background story telling. The lore is epic. The constant background corpo wars going on is just awesome. it really adds to the dystopian bladerunner feeling you get when immersing yourself into the game.
character develepoment as far as gameplay is concerned is just as well done. You can create some very diverse gameplay with each build you design, and drive each combat scenario in multiple ways. I def enjoy Hacking, but if you like to run and gun, you can def do that too.
Cons.
A huge con for me is that the three life path choices dont have much sway on the story. These three choices were something i was greatly looking forward to playing. Im a huge TTRPG player so backstory is always a big factor for me. Unfortunately, outside of some different dialoge options, the story is the same regardless of lifepath choice. This is why I give it four stars instead of five.
Overall I am greatly pleased with the way it turned out. I cant wait for the DLC to drop.
Go play it. Its worth it Choom.
This game reminds me a lot of the first Deus Ex game with modern graphics. Even that game had its flaws. Is this game perfect. No. It doesn't need to. For me, this game ticks all of the boxes to be entertaining. Great gun play. Great story. An RPG progression system that rides that fine line between too simple and too complicated. There are some bugs still here for sure as I'm a new owner when they released the 1.5 patch. Characters will stutter and float thru objects sometimes. Traffic on the streets doesn't always act as you would think it should. The gameplay as a whole feels a little off at times. Driving is a little clunky as well. Don't expect to drive around the city like you would in GTA. Despite all of that, I still highly recommend this game. I brought up Deus Ex at the begining because over 8 hours in and I have those same vibes as I did when I fired that same game up some 20 odd years ago. That game has a lot of flaws with it as well that haven't aged well. Yet, I still re-install it from time to time to go thru the game again. A game with a great story has a tendancy to do that. With this game, that just might be its overall saving grace here. There's a sense of freedom in how you accomplish your missions. There is a world here you can explore. The sci-fi/cyberpunk look really looks great here. There is always an overall great sense of tension and consequence to the game as you progress. Besides, good ol' Keanu Reeves is in it ;). Is it the breathtaking magnam opus some of us were hoping it is? No. However, that shouldn't prevent you from at least picking it up when it goes on sale. If you like action first person shooters with RPG elements thrown in you should like it. It's an overall great experience that you shouldn't overlook.
It's exactly what I wanted from a game. Yes, it was overhyped before release. However, I played since version 1.0 on launch day and enjoyed watching it evolve as I expected it to. I have over 200 hours of game play with multiple runs and different play styles.
Do I wish I waited for patch 1.5? Yes, but love the lore and enjoyed it on PC very much. My friends on PS4/Xbox1 didn't enjoy it as much or at all, but I consider this a PC game first and console port 2nd.
