Overall it's decent so far. I only found one configuration in character creation that I liked. It's about as difficult as making a character in fallout 3 or new vegas. There's no pale skin tones, most of them are darker, and there's only two long hair options for men and they're both pretty bad. In fact one is probably a female option they're sharing.
Also the lack of dual wielding is really glaring, because all the skill trees for pistols show two guns. I'm sure they'll improve on this stuff later.
The story is also the best I've played in a while. On par with Mass effect 2 or Fallout 4
Gameplay is decent but death is a little random and there's no quickload and no ability to rebind dodge from double tapping.
Witcher 3 is most likely my favorite game, so I was hyped for Cyberpunk 2077. I just started Act 2 tonight and wanted to break down some pros and cons to this game thus far.
Pros:
1. The main story is great and what you would expect from CDPR. Is it as good of a story as Witcher 3? Probably not. But it is pretty damn good. Better than the vast majority of games.
2. Character creation and builds are very interesting. It seems to me I could play this game 4-5 different times and use completely different builds every time.
3. The characters are pretty interesting overall as well.
Thoughts:
1. Most of the sidequests are really bland. I expected a lot more since 'contracts' were such a big part of Witcher 3. Some of those were just as great as the main quests. It seems like they sacrificed quality for quantity when it comes to side quests, at least so far. If this changes I will come back and edit my review! The map is full of things to do, but those things just feel kind of... shallow (at least so far)? They are fun for now, but I imagine they will get old quick and I'll just focus on the main story.
2. Combat is hit and miss. It seems like they really wanted to make stealth a big part of this game and it is falling short. The melee combat is really cool (I will likely use a controller at a later time for a melee playthrough). Weapon play is solid, but not spectacular.
Cons:
1. The game is pretty buggy.
2. The PC version of the game does have some issues with controls.
3. I think they may have gone a bit overboard on the nudity and sex in the game. I haven't even got to the parts of the game where my character actually has sex... but I have seen people dancing naked, naked on posters, picked up naked dead people, seen my character naked a bunch of times, etc. When they put sex in the Witcher 3 it felt like it meant something or was fun/funny when it happened to pop up in the story or side quests. Now it just feels overdone.
I grew up on Deus Ex, Johny Mnemonic and everything Cyberpunk. What can I say? Everything is here and I love it.
There are bugs. Some of them annoying, some of them hillarious. Hope they'll get rid of them soon.
Like many others I've been looking forward to this game since the first trailer years ago. To that point, my personal belief is that FANS have overhyped it to the point that no matter how CDPR made it they will be disappointed. I'm not saying there isn't any contribution to this overhyping from CDPR's side, but it's like the question if the egg or chicken came first. In this case regardless of who "started it", each hyping on one side encourages more hyping on the other. I'm also well aware there are actual bugs they need to fix and I'm not excusing them from needing to do that.
Luckily for me, the bugs have mostly been some minor visual hiccups that don't affect gameplay too much (e.g. cars randomly flipping/freaking out, crashing, etc) and I'm about 10 hours in. One common bug I've noticed, and this has happened in the Witcher 3 too, is that sometimes I can't pick up objects that you should be able to pick up. Like sometimes some junk on the floor, which is highlighted to show I can pick it up, just can't be picked up no matter what angle I approach it at. One other bug I've noticed is that one time I was trying to hack a panel, which I kept exiting out of it when I messed up to restart it, it eventually didn't let me hack it anymore. It would start the animation and then exit. A simple reload of the previous save fixed it.
Also, I did have to do some research in finding the right graphics settings. I was getting fuzzy character models and ended up disabling things like chromatic abberation, film grain, motion blur, etc. Again, hopefully these things will be improved upon in future patches.
I'm just going to list the bad stuff, because everything else is pretty good in my opinion.
BUGS
I have not experienced any serious game-breaking bugs. I have only had three bugs, and two of them can be fixed by reloading a save, even if those saves were made after the bugs occur.
The first bug happened when I drove a car. In future cut-scenes and actions, my arms were stuck out in front of me like I was still driving. This included things like reloading my weapon and healing. Reloading any save fixed it and I only had this happen once.
Second bug has happened two or three times. I take someone out non-lethally and move their body. When I set the body down, it makes a gory mess and clips into the ground or the nearest wall and I'm pretty sure they die as a result. I don't know what causes this, but reloading any save at least puts it off for another few hours.
The third bug happened at the end of Act I, you get handed a pistol. The pistol was invisible when it was handed to me and when the character first loads it, but was visible once I regained control of the character. I didn't bother reloading a save to see if that fixes it because it's so minor.
GAMEPLAY/CONTROLS
The only thing I will agree with others on is that the control scheme certainly seems controller-first, but it's not horrible on kb/m. I wish there was a way to see all controls and what they do, but it seems like they're not all listed in the control settings. I haven't had any real issues with playing the game with the default control scheme.
PERFORMANCE
I have had fantastic performance. I get 85+ fps on the medium preset and no stuttering at all. I've never had a texture or poly issue, nothing. I think it runs really well.
AUDIO
There are frequent long periods of audio popping and crackling. I don't know if it was intended to sound "glitchy" but I don't like it and don't see a setting to fix it.
