"The Next Generation of Open World Adventure" is a lofty goal and one I don't think Cyberpunk has lived up to, not yet at least. I do think this game is easily worth the $60 on the story and gameplay alone but, I think they fell short of their ambitous goals and my hope is they do keep working towards that goal and reach it because this game will be legendary if it does. This is for CDPR, it may be harsh but it's necessary; in the end I want this game to be a genre defining one. Just to compare; San Andreas had bars, pool, basketball, gambling, and more. That's a game from 2004; Night City feels like something I just look at, not to interact with.
Like I said, I'm enjoying the game but I see a lot of wasted or untapped potential. So here's my to-do list for CDPR once you've taken a breather from developing this very ambitous game.
1. Dial in the gameplay, squash bugs, refine PC version, more options, etc. Witcher 3 from release to it's final patch is night and day.
2. If I had to choose; I want more customization options in pretty much every category, I'm not asking for super duper deep systems (although i wouldn't mind) but seriously, let me personalize...everything. Weapons, cars, clothes, cyberwear, living space, all of it, make it immersive, I would love that. I want to live in Night City don't just make it an art gallery. I'm just saying, even Geralt could color his armor.
3. Immersion activies. I don't know what else to call them but, I do want to have some drinks, maybe go dancing, play some sports, gamble, do drugs, smoke, hang out with characters. This city is supposed to be the most deplorable city ever right? so let me do some sinning and partying!
I have high hopes, I love Cyberpunk, I have played the tabletop, I know it won't be 1-1 but you can get a lot closer than you are right now CDPR. This is a fantastic foundation for a legendary game, don't waste that potential, please.
p.s High word count 4 reviews. Up vote if you agree so they see it.
Seems the dev's spent more time cranking out high fidelity tech around graphics and RTX and less time working on game breaking bugs and crashes.
Some notable experiences:
- Love dying to an NPC that is shooting through a wall and can't even see.
- Pressing W key and registers as a 'dodge' and get launched 10 feet forward
- recall my car, drives over pedestrians and get crime and police spawn 10 ft behind me and die instantly
- Game crashes after 10 min
- Load up game, main quest asks me to talk to NPC to progress game, already talked to them, can't advance main quest. Restart game, can now progress quest. Game crashes...
Like playing Watch Dog: Unity with a sprinkle of No Man's Sky dissapointment.
Requested refund, doubt I'll get one after playing 4 hrs which were the longest 4 hours to date!
A game need to have 3 key elements in order to call itself Cyberpunk.
1 Power shifted from oldworld government to giant international tech company.
2 Cyberspace is heavily involved in the daily life of most people.
3 Prosthesis is commonly used by most people.
In Cyberpunk 2077, the first two key elements were presented very decently. But the third key element, the prosthesis part is very suferficial.
The good method to introduce cybernetic prosthesis into a game is to have locational damage, which Cyberpunk 2077 doesn't have. In this game, it uses the old generic hit point system to represent the condition of player, and neither the cybernetic implants cybernetic prosthesis could take any damage. Games like Rimworld and Kenshi are doing much better in this case to be honest. Although I admire CDPR a lot, seeing them failed putting locational damage system into the game still disappoints me. A pitty.
And so far there is one thing I actually hate in this game, which is that you can't heal other characters! This is totally immersion killing! The game is already making hit points unrelated to the type or grade of any injury, so why can't I just use me healing injections on my best buddy?
