CDPR burned their reputation to make this game a financial success for their investors with downright deceitful marketing. After all the hype, this is what we get. A beautiful, but empty, soulless city with nothing to do. Broken systems, meaningless fluff, broken AI.
I'm now 50 hours in and one mission away from the ending. The story is the only saving grace of this game. Nothing you do matters. This is an interactive novel on rails. Not even going to mention the bugs, those can be fixed. The rest can't, as the game is already released and some systems simply can't be "fixed" that easily.
Pros:
- Captivating story
Cons:
- Broken AI: Park a car in the street and you can halt the entire traffic in the city, because there is no driving AI. All NPCs know how to do is to cower from you when you shoot a gun.
- Broken policing system: Cyberpsycho running around in the city? Noone cares. Hit a civilian while fighting the Psycho? Cops spawn in and team up with the Psycho to focus on you.
- Dumb spawning system: Cops spawn in right around you. Go climb up a tower and hit a civilian. Poof, cops magically teleport right in around you on the roof and start shooting you. Don't know why crime is an issue at all in Night City, as cops apparently teleport everywhere.
- Meaningless loot system: After every shootout collect all the guns on the ground, then hover over each one to find the one with the best minor DPS increase, discard the rest. There's only a handful of guns, and for some reason they vary slightly in their DPS and rarity.
- Dumb armor system: Every clothing has an armor rating attached and is also apparently random. In Cyberpunk 2077 shorts have a better armor rating than tactical pants. A bra can have a better armor rating than an armored vest.
- No RPG: None of your choice as V matter. There's a pre-defined path given by the writers, and most quests allow for responses which are just variations of "yes".
