This was supposed te be:
A living city. (it is not)
A deep RPG( it is not, and they changed it with no notice to Action adventure)
There is NOTHING to do in night city (i am talking about leasure and entertaintment)
Story is pretty good overall, but i did not feel very bonded with the side characters.
I've spent 80 hours in this game and these are my thoughts.
I, like a lot of people, wanted this game to be great. I finished The Witcher 3 and was amazed by it, and shortly preordering Cyberpunk was available, so I did it. The premiere date was closer and closer, and then CDP Red delayed it. "Need more time to polish the game" they said. Well... Fine, I'm good with it if they deliver better product, i thought. Then they delayed it again. With same excuse. I've waited this long, few extra months won't make a difference for me, I thought. And then it finally arrived...
This game shouldn't be released in this state. It's a disaster on many fronts. And while I enjoyed the main story, I quickly discovered that it's really railed, and what you do, what background you choose, does not matter. This is my biggest dissapointment. And I feel lied to because this is one advertising of this game was about. It even says it in world compedium included with the game.
The world and setting of the game is really good, but this is something CDP Red inherited from buying rights to the Cyberpunk franchise, other then that...
CDP Red messed up everything they could. The AI is broken, cars are broken, police appears from nowhere, NPCs dissapear, the performance is really bad on lower specd pc's, even these within recommended system requirements. Tones and tones of bugs, graphical, physical. Mechanics like crafting are broken. I've spend 50h looting and taking apart weapons, just to discover, that now I have to upgrade components one by one. 8000 uncommon components. And crafting one is taking almost a second. This is ridiculous. Straight up bad game design.
And situation with consoles. Like really, how can CDP Red say that it's playable on PS4 when the game runs with 15-20 fps and models are not loading. "It's playable, because the game runs". F you. Just say you f'd up and will do your best to fix it.
You can only make a first impression once, and CDP Red forgot that. Shame.
If I didn't know that CP2077 were made by the same people who made "The Witcher", I would never believe it was from the same company.
I had quite a lot of fun with the game, truth to be told. However, the last part felt so rushed and all the choices I've made throughout the story was... Well, totally meaningless.
When I've finished the final mission, I thought the next chapter would start. Well, no, game over and a slap in the face with a terrible final cutscene.
8 years of waiting for this. Never been so disappointed.
I did enjoy the game but after the first playthrough the game feels. . Idk man, it's just a lifeless Hollywood movie adaption of the Cyberpunk tabletop role-playing game.
Mike Pondsmith deserves better!
Hopefully they will make this right and add more "life" into the game but I doubt it. I don't regret buying the PC Collector's Edition because my dumb caveman brain has hope that CDPR will make this right.
3/5 Will change my review when they get their stuff in order.
Depressing fucking gaming moment. . .
Good:
- visually stunning
- impressive and immersive gameworld
- very cool and interesting setting
- well made and unique characters with their own personalities
- good and interesting story (Act1 being the best part of it imo)
- good in depth character customization
Bad:
- linear story for the most part, choices don't matter really in the main story
- your lifepath basically doesn't matter
- endings are a huge let down imo (makes everything you did before feel like you wasted time)
- cannot continue after the last main quest (have to load a save before point of no return)
- wasted potential with Romances -> only lame dialogue after completing romance (can't even sleep at your partners home)
- people on the streets are as basic as it gets (10 year old games have better passerbys)
- AI needs rework especially Police
- controls on keyboard are kinda strange and cannot be remapped
- cannot change characters look mid game (not even the hairstyle)
- AI spawing and despawing when off screen
- loot -> 95% of the time I get grenades or consumables which I don't even need and/or use
- bugs
OK:
- driving
- combat and stealth (little bit clunky at times)
- general movement
Conclusion:
For a game advertised as a RPG it lacks many RPG elements especially in the story and the choices you can make or better cannot make. The choices you make are mostly irrelevant and don't have any real consequences in the long run. You cannot "write" your own story like in many other RPGs (like the Fallout- or TES-series). This really diminishes the replayability imo as the story basically always plays out the same way except for minor changes. As someone who likes to write his own unique story in RPGs this is a huge let down.
I hope that DLCs or patches (maybe mods) will fix some of these story and choice related issues I have.
I still had a good time playing it so far but I would not recommend it at the current state.
Not the Masterpiece many claim it to be (not even close).
