Among other things, this launcher improves stability, fixes issues preventing the game from launching on some systems, and restores missing graphics options in DirectX 9 mode.
Last year I could play this game but since last summer I have the same problem: crashes while launching. ¿Is it possible that some Windows update broke something the game needs? If someone can still play it today, it would be nice to know their PC specs and Windows version/GPU driver version.
I had this when it first came out, but my system was a bit light to run it properly. A 'friend' borrowed it, and you probably know how that works. When it came on sale just lately, I picked it up and it had to be about the best bargain I ever got.
Beautiful visuals, decent story, great gameplay. Well worth full price, even managed to get me away from the Stalker series and its' mods for a while.
A bit tempramental to get running, kept crashing from the launcher. Made a shortcut direct to the executable in bin64, no problems.
Runs at a steady 60 fps (I always run vsync) with everything maxed out on my aging system

Everyone wrote already everything, yes, I do like the graphics, yes I also do like the jungle-setting, the shooting mechanics, the nano-suit, the almost open-worldish experience. But, still, there are some sections, that are quite frustrating and very long in the teeth, one of these is the alien ship/cave burrier in the mountain.
Also, some parts of the games can be very hardware demanding, like the last part, where you have to defend a U. S. military mothership/carrier and fight big aliens. Well, in this section I've had big frame drops and some crashes/freezes. So don't forget, to save manually here and there.
I played the game on Core i7 7600, 16GB DDR4 2400 MHz RAM, Windows 10 x64, 480 GB SSD, Geforce GT 1030. My setting were set to gamer @ 1080p and 2x AA. I've got between 40-60 fps.
If I try to compare Crysis with Crysis Warhead, for me, the later game/expansion is the better one. Why? Read my review there :)
Anyway, I still recommend to everyone, who likes action/FPS/shooter games. It should work on most modern computers in 720p or even more if you have a better graphics.
As a paying customer, I really shouldn't be asked to troubleshoot my own products. When I try to launch the game, it crashes to desktop without a single error message. Using the repair game files option prompted GOG to download 102 MB of files, but that didn't fix the issue. This is unacceptable customer service. Nobody should be paying for a game they have to fix on their end.
