Had been playing this Game in my childhood. And just playing it back now after 10 years is more like going back in childhood. I love the memories attached with this game which makes it one of my most favorite game.
Thanks!!
So I remember this game, because I got it as a free gift when I bought a pc game from EB Games, back when EB Games actually sold pc games.
I remember having three copies lying around, after the third we just started taking the disk and cover out and keeping the plastic casing for mix cds.
Anyway, about the game.
It's pretty messy and everywhere in terms of design, and visuals, and the gameplay is clunky
Honestly, the game FEELS rushed.
Explains why they were giving it out.
At first you must keep in mind that crusaders is now 20 years old. The publisher made the mistake to launch this title under the label of might & magic to milk the customer which broke his neck later on. Crusaders has the best soundtracks I 've ever heard in a Computer game composed by Paul Anthony Romero. Okay, nothing new to fans because most of the tracks you can find in heroes II + III or might & magic 7. I like the colorful comic style and the mixture of sword fights and magic attacks you can use. The game has a lot of problems like clipping errors or only a few different enemy models. It's not an open world more a world of corridors, but in this time era most of the games were map based and I prefer corridors instead. All the time it feels like a short console port, but it was solely produced for the pc. A totally different playstation version shall exist of this title, too. The variety of weapons is limited and too similar. Most of the times you are running around to bring collected items to the very rare merchants. If teleports were programmed this relatively short title would have been very short. It was one of the first fighting games with a functional shield collision defense. The negative points beside I had a lot of fun to fight through this world testing the different magic spells you can find and not for only one time. At last I beat it on hardest level.
Still had fun, the music is the sole thing that kept me going
they used a lot of remixed music form Heroes 2 and 3 as well a few tracks from M&M6
so as a hardcore might and magic fan do you need to play this game?
yes if-you like hack and slash, uncovering secrets and secret hidden weapons (dark messiah style)
played a lot of action RPG's like xana princess warrior back in your day
no-if you hate backtracking (the game uses backtracking as padding to the game's length, which is very short)
crappy voice acting (some felt like they were done over the phone) and a generic happy ending where nothing really happens
honestly it was a niche experince and i somehow liked it, i mean compared to today's
AAA games this is not much worse honestly
but it's very flawed and rushed, i'ed recommend you buy it for the soundtrack, if not much else.
