Graphically the game looks great, although I thought I'd be able to play the game with mouse and keyboard with updated controls. Seems modern controls are controller only and if you play with a keyboard you can't rebind any keys or use WASD or use the mouse to control the camera.
For some reason when using monkey bars the camera goes wild and the monkey bars are completely off screen, so I just see Croc with the top of his head cut off, making it really hard to navigate them. I can't find anywhere to report bugs like this or get support from the developers, so I'll refund for now and hopefully these things will be fixed in a future update.
Absolutely not worth 30$.
1. There's no way to Rebind Controls on either KBM or Controller.
2. AI Upscaled Textures.
3. Missing tracks from the Original PS1 Version.
4. The camera was "improved" but is still not good enough for a game in 2025.
5. The whole game is basically just a copy of the Croc Definitive Edition PC Version that a fan released years ago and even this remaster has less features than that version.
6. Incredibly lazy remaster with barely any changes or improvements that is asking for 30$, just terrible in comparison to other franchise's remasters.
Overall the only real positive is that you can play at a higher framerate than the original and if you play on Controller then you can enjoy full Analog movement, however, this is simply a barebones Remaster which sole purpose is milking fans for money.
I'm glad Argonaut Games came back to remaster Croc. Really brought back the good times I had as a kid, the times it was fun, challenging and frustrating. Long live the croc and pray for Croc 2 remastered
Upon first hearing of Croc getting the remastered treatment, I was both surprised and concerned as Croc was definitely more of a product of a bygone era in gaming history and is more remembered as a a quirky platformer with less than ideal controls that did not fit well with the level design the game is centered around and worried it would be a quick cash grab on those feeling nostalgic for the game.
However, after getting the game at full price and right around the launch window of the game, I’m very happy to say that Croc is absolutely worthy of the title remastered and the initial asking price! From the graphical improvements to the controls, Croc was able to transport me back to when I was a young kid back in the 90’s and reminded me of such simpler and more unique times in gaming history and is easy to set up and launch on my PC without any issues or graphical glitches or crashes whatsoever the handful of times booting the game up!
Firstly, controls for the game have been finely tuned to that closer to a Super Mario 3D type game and not that of the tank controls more common in a game like the original Resident Evil games. It’s responsive, smooth, and works naturally with the level design that the game was built around originally all those years ago.
Graphically, the updated models and textures look very clean and polished up, giving me that look a smaller indie platformer look of today that still captures that 90’s aesthetic look of many early 3D games of the time.
It’s also a nice treat to not only get these wonderful quality of life improvements, but also change it in the options menu back to the original graphical look and even play the game with tank controls for those looking for more of a challenge or even experience the game how it was originally designed with. It’s also nice to see all the behind the scenes stuff, directors commentary, artwork, commercials, etc.
All in all, this revival for Croc is well worth your time and money! Play it today! :D
I loved the original as a kid and the remaster is very faithful, while not a complete overhaul like the spyro reignited trillogy this is more of a modernising rather than reimagining.
I hope this leads to croc 2 being remastered and maybe even new croc games! love this series and very happy with the game, haven't encountered any bugs so far, also there is an option for modernised controls rather than the originals terrible tank controls, this is now the definitive edition for me :)
