Getting back into things, I decided to play Clive Barker's Undying after finishing Toonstruck and this was certainly quite a fun game!
You play as a veteran of the great war who encountered a mage that used a magic stone, which after killing him you end up with the stone as a trophy whilst you were sent to the hospital and Jeremiah Covenant, your friend, moved on. Due to the strange powers you've been involved in the occult and investigate the paranormal, soon deciding that there are forced not of this world at work.
During your time away, you had a letter dated from over a month ago from your friend Jeremiah, who needs your help and soon you learn that there is an evil presence and he confesses to you that he and his siblings went to these ancient standing stones, read out verses from their father's book as they were playing around but after that, his siblings had become...changed.
Soon enough you gain all kinds of magical artifacts, especially the Scythe that has the power to kill anything. The only weapon to kill anything that's immortal.
You have both a health and magic meter whilst facing off against the many monsters and creatures that you have to contend against. The designs of many of the creatures, you can tell, are very much based on Clive Barker's imagination if you've ever see Hellraiser. He even lends his voice to one of the characters, Ambrose Covenant, who doesn't appear much but his minions certainly can give you a headache.
The large mansion, where you often return to after defeating a boss or just getting items for such a task, can be confusing as the game doesn't provide any maps, however, the doors to locations you've already been to/don't need to go to are locked so you won't get lost too easily.
