Addictive! But...

The game is a nice managerial simulation of how to create and develop a gaming studio from the early 1975. There are actually a tons of options and it is clear that the devs made an in depth research of the history of the business. The game design is also very good, with tons of options and a very nice system to make sure you have to compromise game functionalities, based on manpower and specific platforms you develop for. The game start interesting and, overall, it seems there are a lot of things to look for. As the time passes and new technologies becomes available, your options (requirements) to lead a succesful business increase as well, makign the whole more and more challenging. 3D greaphics, online gaming, marketing, porting, games engine... So far, so good. The main cons I have with the games are: 1. Mid-game it is not clear what you are doing wrong for unsuccesful new games. 2. Remasters, even of crappy games, seems to always suceed. 3. Porting a game, even to a platform with exact specs, always go bad (like in the real workld). 4. Even if you add a miriad of additional options, ultimately the game loop is waiting for a project to finish. So, in between projects, there is very little you can do. This, ultimately, can be a bit boring. Overall, is a very nice game. A lot of potential and very high polish.

A nice simple game for 6-10 hours

This is a nice game with an obvious inspiration from Game Dev Tycoon (author wrote about it himself). There are some improvements over that game, however, the core gameplay is the same. Positives: - You can now see the optimal positions on the slides as you develop more games and collect more game reports (same as in Mad Game Tycoon). - A couple of fun mini-games for cracking competitors and protecting your studio from their hacks. - A "technology tree" of genres, which you unlock with points you earn by making more good games is an interesting addition. - You can add game features (controller support, 3D graphics, tutorials etc.) that take hardware point from the platform you're developing for. For instance, if a console has 6 "computing capability", you can add only as many features. This makes you balance and prevent spamming game features as in Mad Game Tycoon. Drawbacks: - Renting studios and furnishing them feels redundant. The addition of "auto-furnish" shows that even the developer understands that. - Once you discover the best slider positions, all your games become perfectly balanced. For one genre, it takes around 10 years to do that. - As with all other game dev tycoons, there is no other difference between two games with similar genre, theme and features. According to game tycoons, "Skyrim" and "Dragon Age: The Veilguard" are exactly the same games. - Developing your own game engine is too simple. Also, I could not find the data on how well my engine performs on the market. - Game is said to start with 1976 and has some nice historical references. However, right from the start you have your email inbox and you can hack your competitors in the internet, which is far from "reality". Other than the game features and hardware there is no distinction between 1976 and 2020. - The UI sometimes is not good enough. You cannot see the previous game reports when selecting the features and slider positions.

Infinite, pointless grind

Consoles need at least 15 games for just 2% success in the market. It takes no less than 15 clicks to produce 1 game. 15 * 15 = 225 clicks to make the baseline games for 1 console that will see around 2% market success. Want more success? 225+ more clicks, and you can bask in 4% market success. But by this point you just won't care about success. You'll care about avoiding 225+ clicks. This game expects you to do this every 30-40 minutes. Also, developing a "Big" or "AAA" game takes roughly as long as a console lasts on the market, so by the time your Big/AAA games are completed and ready to publish, your console is obsolete, and the market has been completely replaced with better consoles and better games than you offer. Pretty sure they gave up on this game in mid-development, and just threw this piece of junk together for a quick buck. Fundamental flaws everywhere. I would expect this from an early beta preview, but not the final game. This game is $15.99, but not worth $1.99. Avoid this cashgrab.
