Hey, kids, do you like pain?

Because this is the game for you! Strobing cut scenes! Nauseating camera movements! A character so bland and poorly-acted, an enema would be preferable to listening to this generic shaved-headed Grunty McKillGuy, who is supposedly some crack agent but can't exercise a little opsec! Come for that and stay for the utter nonsense that passes for a story, the complete inability to work out where any damage is coming from, the game's sadistic habit of spawning enemies right behind you or in places you had no idea had rooms there) and foes that somehow survive a grenade to the face. Don't expect the faddy bullet time mechanic to help you, either. The tutorial neglects to bring it up and even when you do realise it exists, it's functionally useless unless you like standing around waiting for it to recharge once a millenium.

Terrible even for Eurojank games

In-depth video review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QunuxavBaUI Chaser does some things right. It attempts to have a sort of a story, even if it's more or less a carbon copy of Total Recall. It uses quite elaborate cutscenes to convey that story. Shame that the actors couldn't deliver their lines well to save their own lives. The guns are kinda cool, but the shooting is at most decent and the sound assets vary between crisp AKs and annoying pea-shooters. It even looks fairly well on a technical level. Hell, the soundtrack sometimes has bangers! But man, oh, man, the level design doesn't just drag the whole game down. It's essentially a 2 Ton boulder tied with a rope that's attached to the game's neck, and thrown into the Marianna's Trench. Chaser's an honest-to-god corridor shooter in its most literal interpretation. To make matters worse, it's even got labyrinthian tendencies, alongside doors which you can't tell apart regardless if they're the way to go or not. Enemies spawning or re-spawning from thin air. In the later parts of the game it's made obvious that there was no more time left for development, and the result is sections that you're supposed to go through but look like they're broken/inaccessible. I only give it two stars because it does a few things ok and it actually works. Otherwise, this is a game you should avoid like the plague.

A good bad game.

Let me preface this by saying I'm not a big first-person shooter fan--I've probably played a half-dozen titles in my life. This game is quirky, it has a number of faults and gamey exploits, and was dated even in 2003. It has a single-player story line that's so melodramatic that it's actually funny. Despite that, it was one of the most entertaining ways to waste countless hours with friends. For all of its faults, the game has a lot of things that go *boom* and little else. Sometimes that's all you need. With this game, I learned there are few things more entertaining than to trap a friend into a gamey exploit and hear them scream at you in frustration. It only takes a few minutes for a complete novice to catch up to speed, so it's an ideal game for newbies into the FPS genre. IF you can convince a couple of friends to shell out $6, it can be a fun multi-player experience. If you're a serious FPS player, you might be disappointed.

Good shooter after all

Can't make a real review on GOG, endless thanks for the size limit. Anyway this game isn't that bad, the AI isn't good but neither Sysem Shock 2 has a good AI, nor Deus Ex and other celebrated titles. The game is VERY long, the plot is rather absurd at times, a couple of levels are really annoying (luckily only a very small portion of the game) but for the rest it's an interesting shooter and better than others.

NO Problems on Windows 7 or Vista

I installed the game on a WIndows 7 platform (64bit) and it didn't start the first time (with Vista the same thing). Solution: Disable the DEP function! bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff (DEP=data execution protection) Look here for a description: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1371116 After this you are able to start the game with administrator rights and enjoy it ;-) (or not) greetings from Germany
