Not Great, but Worth Your Time

This is a pretty short Point-and-Click Adventure that's a distant sequel to Stasis. If you haven't played Stasis, all you'll really miss is a little context and a few nods to the original game. At the time of this writing, it's free, so you don't have much to lose. It has the same basic mechanics as Stasis, so if you have played it, you'll be in very familiar territory. Cayne follows Stasis to a fault, and as such, the puzzles swing back and forth between satisfying and infuriating, and they certainly dip much lower on the scale than its predecessor. Of course, a walkthrough is a pretty easy solution to this kind of problem. The horror starts strong, and far more dark and brutal than its predecessor, further compounded by the fact that you're pregnant and wearing nothing but a pair of jeans and an almost-literal breastplate. I really like the main character; she's a very strong, believable protagonist, who's snarky and cynical, but not one of those annoying characters, who MUST throw a one-liner at every situation, no matter how unfunny or inappropriate. Though they don't have a lot of screen time, the supporting characters are generally well-written. In most instances with horror, however, the horror subsides, giving way to something else as you get closer to its conclusion; it's a natural progression. Theresia has deep, conflicting emotion; Resident Evil has Chris Redfield punching a volcano. You'll puzzle over this as you play Cayne, and as Hadley struggles through her environments, doubles over at the odd labor pain, and trudges barefoot through a very diverse array of unspeakably disgusting dirts and sludges, you'll slowly come to the realization that when Cayne's horror subsides, it gives way to torture porn, and it certainly does well with that. Hey, maybe you're into that sort of thing. Cayne has its flaws and feels a bit rushed, but it has a lot of heart and soul. It's nobody's masterpiece, but is definitely worth playing.

Not bad but good is not this

Not sure if I'm an idiot or what but this feels like pixel hunting the game. It looks good, the music good bu thats it.

Waste of time ^10

So yehhh, free game that after a few minutes into it tells you why nobody wants to pay for it. The story is bad, really bad, really really bad. Movement speed is so slow that I usually was able to fetch tee or coffee in the meantime. Now try to imagine you solving puzzles that require moving around a couple of screens... . And then riddles... my god the riddles. Some of them are straight up retarded, some of the not logical and some childishly easy. The last category applies to the main boss/monster. I figured out how to ......... spoiler spoiler.............. kill it in the middle of the game... yes. Great design... . So after some time, washed off of any traces of fun, I have finished the game and before the final cut scene I knew what will be the conclusion... Seriously people, it was more than obvious from, again, the middle of the game... . JUST DO NOT WASTE YOUR LIFE ON THIS GAME. Better have a beer, meet friends, call your mother, anything but this game.

story might have been interesting...

interesting, save for the cliche acting, cliche characters and cliche dialogue. the actual story(as in back story and what might be called mid story, as in of the crew that came before) is interesting why I was willing to give it hard drive space and a bit of my time. maybe as a companion booklet to the main story, however, the central story protagonist's screaming, wining and cussing every time you did something wrong or the corny one liners that were not in the least funny got irritating enough to quit in the middle of the game and delete it. She reminds me of a tenant I once had who wanted to be the center of attention, yet disregarded other apartment dwellers rights, I evicted that tenant post-haste, as I will this game from my PC! The protagonist in this game, Hadley, was very immature. even for her age, as were all the crew, the disembodied spirit she always spoke too was also a whiner and a sociopathic moron. I also was tired of the lame morality preaching by the Hadley about how other people need to treat their family(like she would know better, despite being so young) also the black and white ethics the whining of supposedly experienced crew that showed less courage than the uppity smart mouthed upstart protagonist, sounds like a b-rate freebie rental movie to me, though you'd think experienced crew would be talking down to her, not the other way around. the story is read via PDA, and a few men in distress tied to a rail road track who die instantly, PDA, probably something like System Shock the tried and true plot(though this is a Russian game they do it even worse than Hollywood) the middle-aged males in higher power being weak and powerful and the lowly female youth upstart with no experience out witting everyone is getting pretty tired in storybooks, movies, TV and games, written over the last few years, quite frankly, and now it is plaguing computer games. and the "Hollywood acting" everyone raves about is just that. cliche. probably why I originally stopped watching TV and going to movies and playing games like Baldur's Gate, and Gothic series. to escape that. but this "game", is merely another Hollywood drama with interacting in an isomorphic helicopter view where you can't see enough nor get immersed, I prefer closer up, or zoom in ability also, lots of running around back tracking and annoying paraphrasing by the cliche main character. Stasis, the main game, consisted of a weak, helpless, over emotional male protag but that is not as annoying as this. every time you don't open a door Hadley swears or makes some weaker "fudgesickles" remark as if it is a big deal. I have no problem with swearing if the situation calls for it, as in your arm is getting bitten off by giant rats, the male, John and Hadley both did it for the right reasons too, but Hadley every time she stub your toe, or didn't get your quarter back from the soda machine! most of the dialogue and the unlikable characters, all of them including Hadley, belongs in a B- horror film on amazon's "freebie" stream, not in a serious horror game! yes it is free, but it detracts, not adds to the main adventure. and yes, as others have said it takes some portion of your time and IMO, your computer's speed as it is also loaded on your hard disk!

A well done little demo.

Mind you being that this game is free its more than worth downloading. The art is well done and the voice acting is good, all though the MC's moans while climbing might be a little loud or over done. (She is pregnant though so maybe its truly hard for her) Maybe she could have said something like "its a bit much of a climb for me...but i'll try" Theres not much story but the story that is there is good and the puzzles are at least semi logical. It was lacking in ways to die for a horror game, and could have had more horror in the game for my tastes. The ending left me satisfied and if you read all the PDA's you'll understand what is going on in the end. ***SPOILERS!*** The reason you can hear Charlie talking to the MC (sorry forget her name) Is because its the baby she is hearing and someone elses conciousness has been transfered onto the baby. Thats part of the experiments they are doing at Cayne and MC hs likely died or will be taken care of by a security team. She has no chance of escape. ***END OF SPOILERS*** All in all a great free game that you should check out if you like horror and puzzle games. All and all this Free
